Sadly we lost the game.

Re: Fehring's monster torp.
This was not long before I attended my first game as a young Sainter. I remember being in awe of it when seeing it in the highlights for years afterwards. The torpedo punt has been something sorely missing from the game for some time now. Would love to see a freak of nature-type player who has mastered it bring it back in vogue at some point.
It was sad news to hear of his passing back in 2008. RIP Jeff

Re: Fehring's monster torp.
That was Barry Breen's 300th game.
Still have the special souvenir certificate our sponsors (was it Valentine or Spicers?) produced for the day.
Spent the evening with a mate bemoaning the fact we lost - even after such a team lifting, last quarter goal, in the old Hampton Hotel.

Re: Fehring's monster torp.
Me too !
And after the match allot of people were trying to emulate his feat
I was young , my best effort just made it out of the square .
As i got older my mates and i during the after game kick to kick would always try for a big torp.
My best effort was from a goal from just inside the center square. His kick went 25 metres further.
Feels great when you hit the sweet spot and the ball flys away .
He must have connected so cleanly that day .
Great memories

Re: Fehring's monster torp.
Played under him as captain coach & was a hell of a nice bloke but IMO only not the greatest coach but he could kick a torp. However I do have to say he only got on to 1 or 2 out of 10 but when they went mate they went. Tragic that he committed suicide several years ago he was definitely the gentle giant.

Fehring's monster torp.
Fehring’s goal was early 81. Breen’s 300th was late ‘82.Trev from the Bush wrote:That was Barry Breen's 300th game.

Yep, he was reported just beforehand and he took it all out on the poor Sherrin... longest kick I've ever seen too, I was just a kid and it seemed impossible...

I still remember that kick like it just happened minutes ago. It is one of my clearest StKilda footy memories.
Along with times like when as a kid at the Lakeside oval I watched Barks just soar straight up, up and up for the highest speccie I have ever seen first hand.

which were about the only highlights you got as a St. Kilda supporter at the Lakeside Oval - the hidings we got there were just as bad as the ones we got at Windy Hill or Victoria Park.saintsRrising wrote: ↑Fri 12 Apr 2019 10:19am I still remember that kick like it just happened minutes ago. Same. Saw both of those too as a kid. Good memories in a low time for the club. About all we could enjoy then.saintsRrising wrote: ↑Fri 12 Apr 2019 10:19am I still remember that kick like it just happened minutes ago. It is one of my clearest StKilda footy memories.
