Are The New Rules In Our Favour?
This has been a really strange start to the season. In a good way.
Of course I am not complaining. I won't name names but teams that were expected to do well. Aren't.
Others written off are going gang busters.
There are some young blokes who are playing as if they were born to it but I wonder to what extent the new rules are contributing to these form upsets?
The new rules have changed the way the midfield does business.
Has it made some clubs better including us?
Its certainly made some clubs worse. North Melbourne being a case in point.
Gresh and Billings and Steelo seem to be going to another level. The whole team is playing a different brand of footy from last year.
Are we one of the clubs benefitting? I am not saying its everything ( in our case the new coaching staff might have something to do with the form reversal) but it could be something.

Re: Are The New Rules In Our Favour?
What s***s me about these rule changes is that umpires still don't want to call frees. They just call potential injury moments, still don't provide frees for tackles with players swinging 360 degrees at times. When they don't call tackles unless the player hits the ground they the tackler is challenged with an in the back or dangerous tackle. Its a lost cause unless you are able to prise out the ball to 1 ti 1 situation.
I remember Ross Lyon being asked about a loss and the fact Dockers only had 32 tackles for the game. Ross said well you don't get value for tackles and hes right.
Umpires = abdication of their role, given video options and the focus only on injury and the zest for no congestion.

Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.
You need to protect the ball handler to increase posession efficiency

It has been written that when, in the 1960s, Mao was asked, "What was the impact of the French Revolution?" that was his response too.

Scoring hasn’t suddenly exploded like some predicted - from a very quick scan of the results barring some blowouts, the closer matches are still 70-80point range (again, only two weeks to go on)

The 6-6-6 doesn't change a lot.
It is easy to workaround.
With a few mins to go Richo had Newnes line up on the defensive corner of the square and as soon as the ball was bounced he sprinted back, so we we were effectively 7-5-6.
And if we had a quick forward positioned right on the arc at CHF to sprint into the middle we could have had 7-6-5 by the time a ruckman touched it.

The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.

I’m surprised the Einstein’s at AFL funny farm didn’t just cut interchange to 40. That was all that was needed.

Remember we had an early look at them last year so Richo is ahead of the curve.
"Richo the pioneer"
Now we just need a new name for his awsome game plan. "Richo's Roost"anyone cause it looks like the bomb it into the forward line tactic is in vogue. Who would have thought huh. Groundbreaking stuff.
