Even Joey Montagna is for putting Paddy up back for a spell. He is good at reading the ball in flight and u is a good filed kick. He just drops marks and can't kick at goals particularly well

Joey is now a paid employee of the shockers. So treat his suggestion with suspicion.

Josh Bruce would be my choice for CHB.
ST KILDA concedes it didn't know the full extent of prized recruit Dan Hannebery's struggles with his body when it traded for him.

OK..I'll take your word for it, but I am curious. Could you colour in the picture a bit for me here.
Carlisle is good, high quality for sure....but what are the gaps between his attributes and McCartin's? I mean, what traits, skills etc.,
McCartin can certainly bustle a pack and bring the ball down, but perhaps that was when he was being hit up on the lead, and NOT his opponent.
Is it his pace, agility? I think he is a good field kick.
Don't flame me folks, just learnin' some!
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

I have to imagine it's his agility and speed...shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Thu 28 Feb 2019 5:49pmOK..I'll take your word for it, but I am curious. Could you colour in the picture a bit for me here.

He would do very well if the ball was bombed long to a pack that he was a part of but I think he would struggle playing against someone on the lead... don't know that he has super quick acceleration/reaction, hence a forward suddenly taking off to a pre-planned destination that the ball would be delivered to may be very challenging for him.
You could get around that if the team had a good zone style defense ala the Lyon era but I don't reckon we have it now.
If it was me, my preference would be to take one of Paddy/Bruce out of the forward line period and have them play as a good old fashioned running tall... have them go wherever the ball is and occasionally get them to drop down back as an extra to the contests too... could be a nice way to take advantage of Paddy's very nice field kicking
Structure the forward line around a lot of small to take advantage of the ball coming to ground... Say Bruce, Membrey, Gresh, Lonie and Sinclair

Re: Jake Carlisle back injury - 5 months?
After the game today I notices Paddy’s big forward credentials being hailed in the press and helped by the 666 rules. Perhaps it is a mute point? Unless it is a foil by our coaches and Paddy has been secretly selected to be the next CHB. Doubt it. Another thing I wondered about was peripheral vision, like Kosi, perhaps he doesn’t have the best 360 degree radar, which I def think helps a CHB.skeptic wrote: ↑Sat 02 Mar 2019 1:01pmI have to imagine it's his agility and speed...shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Thu 28 Feb 2019 5:49pmOK..I'll take your word for it, but I am curious. Anyway, very happy about today even though we were beaten on the scoreboard for three quarters!

Still trying to avoid surgery.
Oh and Carlisle, like Roberton have that innate ability to read the play that not that many players do.
Hence the decent amount of intercept marks.
Paddy.... No. Let him play out of the square. He will kick goals this year.

Season over really.
Thank god we kept Brown but I'm really looking forward to Joyce, Austin and Battle stepping up.

Agree. Brown has been panned on this site so many times by various posters on here. I'd like someone to name a more important player for us now let alone value for moneytedtheodorelogan2018 wrote: ↑Wed 06 Mar 2019 12:09pm Season over really.

Re: Jake Carlisle back injury - 5 months?
re keeping Brown: Yep, when it comes to key backman, they are lit up like the 'hero' or the exact opposite, obscured in the shadows like 'zero' for fans. MCquire, Houghton = heros. Wakelin lads and even the fella that went over west with Mr Lyon, less famous . And yet so many are very serviceable. Brown is certainly in the shadow.
Remember Shane Wakelin relegated to playing at Williamstown by Collingwood as their third preferred full Back, behind Clements and Presti. Then due to injuries and whatnot, gets recalled and plays continuously and gives great service. That will be big Brown. Just don't get suspended too often please!

Agreed.
This is a substantial bit of bad luck.

Austin looks the goods to me. Was happy with his games last year. Good kick.
Him and Brown in KP, Roberton, Webster as medium defenders.
Geary and Savage for smalls.
Joyce next cab off the rank.

Would be very unlikely we'll see Jake play in 2019. Time to play and develop the St. Kilda yute!

Re: Jake Carlisle back injury - 5 months?
I hope Jake the best. The club will no doubt allow him all the time needed to recover.
I think it is easy to predict he will not return in 2019, which is terrible. The only positive from the team view is that other players have the development opportunity.

Re: Jake Carlisle back injury - 5 months?
Darragh Joyce was pretty good last Sunday in only his third AFL game. Would be great to see him develop into a decent full back in Carlisle's absence.
