I'll give you an example.
Scenario A)
Richo might say, 'Gee I thought that Dunstan looked slow on the weekend, decision making was ordinary, let's have a look at bringing Acres in.' Member of match committee says, 'defensively he was really good. His opponent had nil effect on the game, when the game was on the line he stepped up. I reckon we need his experience. Give him another week.'
Coach takes this advice on board because coach respects the opinion of the person talking to him. Others (whom he also respects) also agree with committee man. Coach elects to go with what they are saying.
Scenario B) Richo says, 'Nope, I can't have him in my team making those turnovers. I need more run and carry. Acres was great for Sandy. I want him in. I hear what you're all saying but I'm over ruling.'
That's how a selection committee should work. Coach surrounds himself with ppl he respects, not yes men (or women) . People who aren't afraid to express their opinions and tell the coach he is wrong, but also respect the position of the coach.
Footnote - examples are purely hypothetical. I have no idea how anyone went on the weekend. First time in 12 years I missed the game on TV or live. Dunstan may have smashed it for all I know
