It will look bad if we lose badly.
Think of me long enough to make a memory.

We take them on and we believe in ourselves FFS. Unlike supposed supporters who want everyone sacked.

Re: Bombers Getting Hammered...we scrape thru. Consequences?
Our midfield needs to step up
Marshall Acres, Hunter, Brown in
Pierce out, Wilkie out, one small forward out and maybe Dunstan

Will be a big test for our midfield. Shiel, Smith, Heppell, Merrett all no joke. And they were flogged in the middle today, so I would think they have something to prove. Reckon Steele might get one of his “special jobs” and run someone into the ground.

If we’re ever going to beat them it might be early in the season.

Can’t see 4 unforced changes after a win! 1-2 changes tops barring unforeseen injuries based on the past

the only one I am confident on is Brown in for Joyce. Joyce was ok but not really good.
Hunter in for Dunstan and maybe Marshall for Pierce as well but I hater dropping guys afgter one game even if it was a bad one

I'm less concerned about team selection than overall mindset. A win with some areas to work on and Essendon coming from a flogging - how each team trains this week will be interesting.
If we focus on our positives - pressure, ball gets, structure, we will be the better team for it.

Are you suggesting Shiel made a mistake?

As much as I love to see the druggies get belted it probably hasn't done us any favor's. The press will be all over them like a cheap suit & they will really be fired up to get some respect back. On paper they look a way better side than us so we will really have to go to another level to be able to beat them .I'm not saying we can't but if we play like we did today then we don't have a snowman's chance in hell of winning IMO only.

It's a good question for me..I don't know, that's what i'm wondering...kosifantutti wrote: ↑Sun 24 Mar 2019 6:51pmHow would the bombers getting smashed affect our team selection?shanegrambeau wrote:..for us next week, vis-a-vis our team selection?
Maybe it will mean didly squat. I don't think so.
Saints will have watched Essendon closely of course, and will anticipate match ups. If Essendon don't make changes they will expect a massive improvement.
They were lethargic. Ran a total of 135km in game; GWS ran 221km! Are they unfit? Will they train like the Marines this week? Does that mean Armo can come in because they are slow or should we go more pace and exploit the gap?
Of course they'll say we play each week the same regardless but they will admit to trying to figure out who to play on who. And after that performance, what can you say about Essendon? except they will Essendon should come out charging?
Fun trivia.
Apparently, haven't been belted in the opening round since 2004, when they lost to Adelaide by 94! Nice. Guess who they played in Round Two. Saints. Thommo and the boys fixed them up again.! GTrain 3!

We haven't beaten them for a few years so I reckon we might be due.

Re: Bombers Getting Hammered...we scrape thru. Consequences?
THe trouble with stats like this is that the GPS recording broke down half way through the game - GWS actually ran the least of any side of the week - Essendon ran at least 100Km more than was recorded. But you have to run more if you are chasing!shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Sun 24 Mar 2019 10:35pm They were lethargic. Ran a total of 135km in game; GWS ran 221km! Are they unfit? Re: Bombers Getting Hammered...we scrape thru. Consequences?
Got a feeling we’ll get the jump early and beat them. Still think we are a bottom four side but a little confidence from the week past, a few key ins and playing against a side who will be feeling the weight of the world on their shoulders...we’re a good chance

Re: Bombers Getting Hammered...we scrape thru. Consequences?
Telstra customers would be able to confirm this, but from data I've seen on BF, Essendon ran a total of 147 kilometres as a team compared to GWS' 240 kms. Someone has mentioned saints ran 280 kms which is almost double that of Essendon. I personally think they are underdone and haven't worked as hard as other teams over the summer ; bought into their own hype. I know it's only one game but given it is round 1 that is a shocking statistic to see for the dons fans and makes my mouth water as a saints fan that we have them next week. Would any Telstra customers be able to post the Saints vs GCS team tracker? Would be greatly appreciated!

This will be the first real test of where we are at as a footy club in 2019 and how long Richo can expect to remain as coach.
So I make no predictions. Essendon will want to prove something after such a hammering. We will want to prove that we are about burying the ghosts of 2018.
Hopefully, it will be a cracking game of footy and a victory to us.

And last year, they were terrible in the first part of the season too. However, they won the last ten out of 14, said Tim Watson on SEN today. Watson also questioned why they have a terrific forward in the seconds (who kicked five on the w/e) can't get a game.Raph Goat Clarke wrote: ↑Mon 25 Mar 2019 11:01am I personally think they are underdone and haven't worked as hard as other teams over the summer ; bought into their own hype.
Some say Essendon are weak. I just think of late season last year. The game Goddard went down for them. Scores level at 1/4 time. By 3/4 time we were down by 50! Lost by 43 pts after Essendon had yet more injuries. It is really sad viewing on YT. Couldn't watch, reminded me of the North Easter game.
But Gold Coast did well, better, much better than last year. And so did we. Now I'm thinking, we are four goals better than last year so...maybe we are in with a chance. It is the battle of the Ben's, Rutton and Ratten!
