Acres - The Forgotten Man?
What's happening with 8cres, does anyone know?
Apparently he hurt his back in the intraclub and we haven't seen him in any JLT games although he may have played at Sandy.
Will he play this weekend for The Mighty Saints?

Re: Acres - The Forgotten Man?
Sadly Acres has sprained his potential, which is a 2 to 9 week issue.
It's particularly tragic for him, because that's all he has shown up to now.

Re: Acres - The Forgotten Man?
The coach has not let him flourish
Acres can be as damaging as the best mids in the game if he is allowed to settle in the one position in the team and be given as many games in a row as the coach gave Newnes or Weller last year.
Champion data rate Acres and DMac above Seb Ross as far as impact in games for our team. Blake's possessions are more damaging and they create more scoring opportunities than your average posession gatherer

Only works one way and lazy!!!!!
Can't blame everything on the coach, Blake hasn't improved because he doesn't work hard enough at his deficiencies!!!!!
Every heard of line coaches and specialist coaches at all?????

I don't think the memo from Gears got through to some of the fans on here
Don't focus on what he can't do

Re: Acres - The Forgotten Man?
Saw in another thread he waa 23? This might be somewhat inflammatory but we should be looking for him to start paying dividends on the glimpses of greatness we've seen.
I'm a fan, but he has to put up more consistent effort otherwise it must be time to trade I would think.

Anyway, at this point Blake can't get a game, so maybe he should focus on fixing that!!!!!
Ok, let's focus on what he can do then, he gets a few unaccountable touches in the VFL, happy?????

Re: Acres - The Forgotten Man?
Of course not. All are listed in the SS liabilities column, with the possible exceptions of Gresham and Clark. If Gresham has a couple of poor games, look out. Clark will be given a bit of leniency.
Many will be written off as at July 1, 2019, but in reality will end up having very good AFL careers.

Well Gresham had a poor JLT and so he must be finished....takeaway wrote: ↑Wed 20 Mar 2019 7:18pmOf course not. All are listed in the SS liabilities column, with the possible exceptions of Gresham and Clark. If Gresham has a couple of poor games, look out. Clark will be given a bit of leniency.

Re: Acres - The Forgotten Man?
Not mentioned in the latest injury report, neither was one of my favs, Dan McK. . I'd like to see a report/podcast on players not injured but also not in the firsts, to get an idea of where they are at. I am assuming they are fit but not fit enough. All things being equal I'd expect Acres to play ahead of Newnes and Dan ahead of Savage.( I'd also expect Longer when fit to play in ruck rather than Blake. )

Apparently Blake's over his back issue, having played for Sandy last week and in line for selection as is DMac.....

Re: Acres - The Forgotten Man?
Blake has had the misfortune of being in a program that has lacked the capacity to adequately develop & coach their players. Hopefully the club & by extension the players (including Blake) have turned the corner.

From another thread:
Myron Gaines wrote: ↑Wed 20 Mar 2019 9:26am Taken from a recent fox sports article that I’ll link below includes our best performed players rated by champion data & another group that are rated above average.
What stood out to me in this article was there was no mention of Carlisle. Or Steven. Or any other player in that older age bracket. They are all aged between 21-25 which suggests our nucleus of best performed players (as rated by CD) are still young with the best footy ahead of them.
Here’s the quote from the article which includes those players:
“The best players at St Kilda are primarily aged between 21 and 25. Their top-four rated players last year by Champion Data were Jade Gresham (21), Daniel McKenzie (22), Jimmy Webster (25) and Blake Acres (23).
Add in more above average players like Jack Sinclair (24), Jack Steele (23) and Jack Billings (23), and you can see a group coming together.”

Re: Acres - The Forgotten Man?
I take your point but CD are notoriously secretive about how they determine "elite" and their methodology seems extremely... weird without any explanation of how they came to that conclusion.Jacks Back wrote: ↑Wed 20 Mar 2019 10:14pm From another thread:

For example:
https://www.sen.com.au/news/2018/11/30/ ... e-players/
No Cripps, Selwood, Titch, but Seedsman, Saad, Dumont are elite. This is not an outlier either, you can review past lists and see the same, and they never explain why these players are deemed elite.
Indeed Supercoach, whose player prices are driven off the effectiveness and important stats from CD themselves have Cripps, Selwood, Titch in the upper eschalon of pricing which seems counter to their own published data
TLDR I would be wary of drawing conclusions from Champion Data.

Blake Acres has overcome back soreness and pressed his case with a strong showing for VFL side Sandringham the same day the Saints defeated the Bulldogs.
That makes a little more sense now.

He was also injured and missed a lot of footy last year, and came back underdone - hopefully he will have better luck this year.
With luck and continuity, I'm expecting a breakout year from him.

Re: Acres - The Forgotten Man?
Acres is a class act both in winning the ball and his usage
He has been used running the wings from full back to full forward - however I would like to see him in the “guts”, not running wing patterns
The one area for improvement, given his size, is his overhead marking which I would like to see a feature. He has the size to be really dangerous in this space as well

Re: Acres - The Forgotten Man?
Acres is good on the run and around the wings - good at evading tackles. He regularly over kicks to forwards - lands it over their heads or too short. he has accuracy but poor judgement of distance with his boot. This is a very costly problem which diminishes his value considerably. To the top wrote: ↑Thu 21 Mar 2019 6:53pm Acres is a class act both in winning the ball and his usage

Suggest you read the thread, and other threads involving Acres. Pretty obvious. Having said that, he is also in the assets column of quite a few.sunsaint wrote: ↑Thu 21 Mar 2019 6:09pmcould I ask a question of you twotakeaway wrote: ↑Wed 20 Mar 2019 7:18pmOf course not. Any luck that Richo actually play him for 4-5 weeks in a row as a mid...or just in the team full stop!samoht wrote: ↑Thu 21 Mar 2019 12:04pmI thought this was the case.diddley wrote: ↑Thu 21 Mar 2019 8:39am https://m.saints.com.au/news/2019-03-20 ... nd-1-berth

Any luck that Richo realise that Acres could be a huge asset around the ground? Put it this way; who would you rather rotate through the centre - Hind, Lonie or Acres? Who would you rather go for a contested mark around Centre Half Back - Newnes, Savage, Geary or Acres?
