Re: Round 1 Gold Coast Suns
We just beat Brisbane in the first game last year and then had our worst game in the second round on Good Friday against North and never recovered.
Beating Gold Coast by a small margin will not really mean much nor would losing by a bit as we have "injuries". We really need to give em a thrashing!

As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”

Re: Round 1 Gold Coast Suns
The margin is not the indicator. How we play is.
Relentless pressure. Hitting targets. Moving the ball with system.
That's what I will look for.
The margin should be great but we have injuries and they have a better ruckman.

Re: Round 1 Gold Coast Suns
The big question is who will play key backs for us in the season's opener. Will it be the Irish guy and Dempster's cousin, maybe even Battle or will one of the newbies be shoehorned in.

West Coast have a lot more snr experience on their list than us Joffa, depends on what stage your list is at!!!!!Joffa Burns wrote: ↑Sun 17 Mar 2019 10:30pmOnly if you don’t have depth in your list.
WC without Nic Nat & Gaff 2 of their best 5 win a flag.
Plenty have done it, if they’re good enough.
Your statement is true enough, however your comparison is Apples and Pears mate!!!!!
'Cause StoneCold Said So'!!!!!
We will be great again once Billy is back playing!!!!!

Wasn't actually comparing Saints & WCE, but understand why you would think I was.stonecold wrote: ↑Mon 18 Mar 2019 10:50amWest Coast have a lot more snr experience on their list than us Joffa, depends on what stage your list is at!!!!!Joffa Burns wrote: ↑Sun 17 Mar 2019 10:30pmOnly if you don’t have depth in your list.

My comment was generic, you only look for "excuses" or reasons when you fail, not when you're successful.

Re: Round 1 Gold Coast Suns
There is no way Rowe plays, he looks about as fit as me!!!
Irish and Swampy will play round one and hopefully Battle can take on the role left vacant by Robbo.

What about Dempster's cousin? Don't agree Marsh will get a gig this early.

Re: Round 1 Gold Coast Suns
If Pierce is selected as our first ruck then I won't be surprised to see Marshall selected as FB to play on 2M Peter who will surely be their 2ns Ruck option - therefore Marshal can ruck against him id/when they move him from FF.

Re: Round 1 Gold Coast Suns
From my mate Dinny at the Hun.
St Kilda
"A couple of defenders in Jonathon Marsh and Sam Rowe were recruited late last week under the pre-season supplemental selection period rule to help cover the loss of Dylan Roberton (heart) and Jake Carlisle (back). Marsh would be closer to selection than Rowe, having been training with Richmond's VFL side rather than Eastern Football League team Doncaster East. Rookie Callum Wilkie will be considered to replace Roberton, since they're similar types. Dan Hannebery is continuing his conditioning block after persistent hamstring issues so won't appear in round one, but mature-age draftees Matthew Parker and Nick Hind are huge chances to make their debuts against Gold Coast on Sunday at Marvel Stadium, with Parker the more likely. Former Melbourne forward Dean Kent will probably play his first game in Saints colours. Four-time best and fairest Jack Steven has been battling a mental health issue, but if he's declared right will be named." - Dinny Navaratnam

Re: Round 1 Gold Coast Suns
On the subject of our defenders - our starting backline of Joyce, Battle and Wilkie have a grand total of 7 games experience. Actually this I don't mind too much. Glad to see Joyce back in, and Battle was good in the practice matches. Good luck Wilke in your first match tomorrow.
Very important that Steven plays in the centre tomorrow - if 2 metre Peter gets plenty of supply the Suns will be in this game up to their necks.
