A lot of positives; got a win, converted above 50%, kicked over 100 points, pressure, pretty even performance across the board.

Re: JLT1 Match Thread - Saints v Kangas
Well what a VAST improvement compared to the rubbish the Saints dished up in the pre-season last year.
PROS
Good structures in how we moved the ball. Last year we look lost and confused. Congrats to all the coaches.
Good aggressive play.
Faster.
Good skills in the main.
Despite no ruckman with Lewis being ko-ed and no Steven or Hannas the midfield went well.
Paddy looked very good and more confident.
I thought that our recruits all looked ok to good. Parker looks likely and Hind impressed as well.
Billings looked very sharp apart from that last shot on goal.
Good rotation of all our players.
Robbo is back and looked REALLY good. He will make a huge difference down back.
CONS
Membery's yips on goal remain. While he got 2 goals in last quarter they were of the easy run in type. His set shots were rubbish.
With Lewis going down Bruce could not play the roaming CHF role that we want him to.
OVERALL
I was pleasantly surprised am more impressed that I would have dared to hope pre-game.

Full time Saints 102 - 77
We won with about 130 less disposals than north but hitouts were about 12 to 58 to them.

Lonie playing his natural game again and better for it. Saw last quarter, heard other three only but Parker stand out of draft picks. Honestly didn't really notice the ithers. Kent was in there as well.
Lots of positives but we are really missing a ruck

Yes Steele looks to be continuing the excellent improvement that he showed last year.
Lonie was busy all day.

Definitely a much better effort than our JLT performances last year which I thought set the pattern for the rest of the year.
Many good signs especially from some of the new faces.
I haven't been a Lonie fan in the past but that is by far the most constructive game I have seen him play.

Feels like forever since we saw a pre-season win...does wonders for confidence and membership, so nice to see the club taking it seriously.

We have 8 on the interchange and yet no second ruck???????????????? Pierce looks like he has been concussed (should have been a free - no mention on the commentary) and we have Bruce as second ruck again FFS!!!!!!

Nice to get a win of any description. Still not enough to get me to renew though. Happy to be proven wrong.

Re: JLT1 Match Thread - Saints v Kangas
I am happy with Bruce's game in the first half, he actually took a few nice marks in packs, where in the past he would have slapped the ball to bring it to the ground.
Whether Ratten or Lade made him wake up to the mistake, who knows, but he actually looked like a footy player and not Basil Fawlty.

Saints for the 8!
Good first up start by the boys overall.
Great to have Roberton, Bruce and Newnes fit again. Parker, Hind and Kent are good pick ups.

Posters that have admitted they were wrong about Hanna's gastro and the club didn't create a cover story.

Kent, Parker and Hind look like good additions on that effort. Plenty of first up base to work from at AFL level. Wilkies also looks like a very versatile tall utility.
Good signs from Lonie, Steele, McCartin, Gresham and Billings.
Newnes, Webster, Roberton, Geary, Savage and Brown were solid, Skunk needs to kick straight and get his confidence flying and Bruce looks very fit and just a little rusty.
I was pretty happy with Battle, Phillips and Joyce too. Great to see them getting experience

I don't know about the 8 but have to agree Ted , even though it's only the JLT Cup overall there were encouraging signs .tedtheodorelogan2018 wrote: ↑Sat 02 Mar 2019 4:36pm Saints for the 8!

Keep your chin up, Sarge- and maybe go and do something that makes you smile, like fishing, or have a beer or three with some close mates.
Peace brother

If all else becomes slow he could help out in accounts.PLAYER BIO
Wilkie was selected by St Kilda with pick No. 3 in the 2018 NAB AFL Rookie Draft.
The 22-year starred for North Adelaide in 2018 as an intercept defender, clinching the club’s best and fairest award and helping the Roosters win the SANFL premiership.
The former accountant is an elite kick and will add depth to the Saints’ experienced back half.

Re: JLT1 Match Thread - Saints v Kangas
I know it seems a bit strange because he was out of the game 10 mins in, but geez Lewie looked good. He was strong in the ruck contests, and showed intent once the ball hit the deck. Looks to have finally filled out a bit too.
