Jake Carlisle back injury - 5 months?
Holy crap.
https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/bac ... 510ik.html
“Jake’s had back issues for a while and he’s now got, I guess, disc issues,” Lethlean told SEN on Wednesday.
“He’s going to need to see a specialist, things aren’t improving, he hasn’t been able to train properly since really most of January now and it’s not getting better so we need to assess whether surgery is going to be an option. If it is, that’s going to mean a significant chunk of his season interrupted.
“If you’re going under the knife, you’re certainly looking at three, four, five months [sidelined]. I guess we’re not quite there yet, but we certainly haven’t found a different alternative that’s making it better right now."...

Thanks to my gentlemanly sporting nature, I just hope seventeen other AFL teams out there are similarly sensing ground implosion as their timbers creak and crack like our good ship. Like sitting in port before setting off for a long voyage to the new world, waiting for the next tide, hearing the snap and crackle pop as the a spars fall from the masts and a leaks start to spring.
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

If he goes in for surgery now, that's his season over.

hard a-starboard!
This might be code for playing Paddy McCartin in the left forward pocket.

Re: Jake Carlisle back injury - 5 months?
So who fills in his spot, or do we dissolve that role and make a new structure.
What are Jake's attributes?
a) He get's to the good spots..reads play well.
b) Great hands, a good grab
c) He's pretty mobile for a big fella, athleticism
d) He is intiimidating
e) Spends high % of game time on the field??
f) Long kicker?
What if say, Paddy can't cut it up forward anymore? Could he do that kind of role?
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Re: Jake Carlisle back injury - 5 months?
I was pretty furious with Battle being moved into the backline - with Paddy not firing he was tall quick and aggresive a big asset to lose in the f50
But now, Battle playing back may be essential
... maybe we made a mistake by not getting the other King brother...cards and how they fall

Re: Jake Carlisle back injury - 5 months?
Our R1 KPP options (correct me if I'm wrong)
Austin - 194cm
Roberton - 194cm (though does not have the physique for KPP)
Battle - 193cm
Webster - 188cm (surely cannot be considered KPP)
Callum Wilkie (191cm, 87kg) or Darragh Joyce (194cm, 90kgs) would be a chance to be elevated from the rookie list.
Christ, we are up against it. You'd have to think Bruce or McCartin would be shifted back to help.

Re: Jake Carlisle back injury - 5 months?
I knew he was struggling but 5 months "ouch" that is really going to stretch us , he is one we really couldn't afford to lose. Keeps going from bad to worse ATM we just can't take a trick. I think Richo might be in strife

Re: Jake Carlisle back injury - 5 months?
Don't see any major negative issue here. We still have Nathan Brown who is very reliable down back. Young Darragh Joyce is my pick for 'break out' player of 2019. He just needs to get his confidence up.
We also get to find out one way or the other if Austin is a genuine AFL player. He is 24 this season and out of contract so realistically if he doesn't show something this season then I think he will be de-listed.

Marshall also played back in the seniors a bit too. And did quite well. Should man up against 2 metre Peter.stonecold wrote: ↑Wed 27 Feb 2019 4:55pmYou left out Marshall, lucky he spent time down back @VFL level last year, good man management!!!!!evertonfc wrote: ↑Wed 27 Feb 2019 4:47pm Our R1 KPP options

Re: Jake Carlisle back injury - 5 months?
Bruce should go back.
I mean seriously, from what we have seen of McCartin if we put him at CHB he will get destroyed and it will be career over.

Sounds like Carlisle will be off the main list for 8 weeks + so surely they will bring Darragh up.BackFromUSA wrote: ↑Wed 27 Feb 2019 7:59pmMarshall also played back in the seniors a bit too. Alan Richardson as senior coach is as good as tanking.
Worked a treat last year and enabled the club to draft Max King.
ST KILDA concedes it didn't know the full extent of prized recruit Dan Hannebery's struggles with his body when it traded for him.

Agree, imho Bruce is the obvious choice to play CHB.

7 year contract
1 season due to suspension

The can just select Joyce in the senior team.
