One of my favourite saints as well, in fact I looked forward to watching him more than some of the better known saints. Could turn a match in a flash. Could have made it in cricket as well.

Ditto to the above.
It was reported he was in poor health a while back so hopefully he is on the road to recovery.

Re: George Young turns 70
Yes nice milestone Geo. Hope you are ok, wondering about your health without wanting to be intrusive, just wish you well. Saw you in a 1978 game replay against Essendon a couple of nights ago. You played good. The commentators noted you were so efficient, something like 5 goals from seven touches and you made the Essendon defence a bunch of nervous wrecks. We can only dream of that sort of finishing currently. It was nice to also see Trevor Barker, a Rex Hunt not kissing anything and a young (no pun) Justice Mordacai Bromberg of the Federal Court. The change room conversations at that time must have been priceless. Wonderful memories - thanks again.

To me Georgie Young was like "silk" back in the 70's.
That title has been taken over more recently by Shaun Burgoyne. Totally different players, but both blessed with silky skills. Best wishes George.

I still say can't believe that he isn't in our Team of the Century. Absolute travesty IMHO.

Re: George Young turns 70
In the first few years I was old enough to go to Moorrabbin without adults it seemed no other excited us like George Young. You felt the pride swell when he came out to take a grab at a time, it seemed everything was in disarray. I was born Sep '63 so from 10 - 25 was decline or disaster, but especially those years that really hurt were around 10-14 yrs old, and that was when, thank you George, you were one of the few inspirations. (Barks of course was a young star then too) but '77 oh dear...
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!
