By now....
By now:
The Club operations men and woman would have:
- Considered when Oscar C will debut;
- Realised the mistake it was to play Mav Weller in so many games and apply that lesson to all out of form players and selection processes;
- Have a realistic idea of how much quality game time Paddy can deliver;
- Decided that at least one forward of 180cm or more has to be in forward 50 at all times;
- Workshopped alternative head coach options;
- Decided the players were not sufficiently fit in 2018;
- Thought about tactics to mitigate poor kicking skills;
The players would have thought:
- Blake Acres needs to become a better player in 2019 or become expendable. Unrealised potential becomes tired when bright new recruits keep showing up looking for midfield positions;
- Break out years for McKenzie and Billings in 2019;
- Battle will be a revelation to the rest of the comp.;
- Armo, Savage and Newnes will be considering their playing mortality and give it one heck of an effort in 2019;
- Who, if anyone, should be nervous about Coffield and Clark becoming regulars;
- Will Darrah Joyce actually hurt any opposition in a tackle next season;
- How good is Mr Hannebury.
The operating environment will have improved:
- The benefits of RSEA Park will show up;
- The CEO will be more focussed an footy results;
- Lethlean is now firmly in control of on field stuff and getting better all the time in his role;
- Playing in China will be a good thing for us, not so good for Port;
- The playing list is looking ok;
- The coaching, recruiting and player management staff lists are looking ok;
- Membership will decline 10% year on year in the early comparisons but build back up following a winning season.
In case any of these bold statements prove slightly incorrect I will get only a one way ticket to Shanghai and trek back via Shang ri-la.

ST KILDA concedes it didn't know the full extent of prized recruit Dan Hannebery's struggles with his body when it traded for him.

Re: By now....
Yeah I agree.
That was the only point that seemed a bit wrong to me.
Their fitness in the last quarters to me seemed fine. Poor kicking and poor inside 50's were the killers, not the fitness (except for Rice).
Nothing better than a good Dad Joke.

I know Lenny Hayes would make a great senior coach.
He is a natural born leader and would command full respect from the playing group and with smart assistant coaches around him would be an ideal appointment.
Lenny Hayes as senior coach would also help to attract an elite midfielder for starters!
2020 Lenny Hayes senior coach ( if not earlier ) and recruit elite midfielder for 2020 season
2021 Recruit Ben King and improve midfield further
2022 = St Kilda premiership
I honestly think the list is not bad.
Obviously the midfield needs addressing.
I'm very glad and excited that Max King is a Saint ( 100% RIGHT CHOICE )
Thankfully Dylan Shiel said no to 1.3 million and they didn't throw away pick 4 which was desperation and stupidity on steroids.
LENNY HAYES SENIOR COACH
MAKE IT HAPPEN

Re: By now....
I was at the WCE game in Perth,
we were behind at 3 qtr time by what, 48 or something?
That last qtr effort says our fitness isn't an issue.
