Deep In Debt
Under normal circumstances a club has one of each
2019 First round draft pick
2019 Second round draft pick
2019 Third round draft pick
2019 Fourth round draft pick
BUT
In the Hickey trade we swapped St Kilda's 2019 4th round for West Coasts 4th round
Then in the Hannebury trade we gave away St Kilda's 2nd round
then 2018 draft day we gave away St Kilda's 2019 3rd round to get pick 51 from North
It became pick 54 that we used on Nick Hind
Then we traded away pick 61 for GWS 2019 4th round & Gold Coast 2019 4th round
It remained pick 61 when it was used by GWS
At this stage we had
OUT
2019 St Kilda 4th round
2019 St Kilda 2nd round
2019 St Kilda 3rd round
IN
2019 West Coast 4th round
2019 Gold Coast 4th round
2019 GWS 4th round
Then we traded
St Kilda 2019 4th round to Carlton for pick 67 which we used on Robert Young
St Kilda's 2019 4th round NO! NO! NO! Mr AFL we had already sold that one.
Did we hood wink Carlton into thinking they would get St Kilda's 2019 4th round - I like that
It must either be West Coast, Gold Coast or GWS 2019 4th round
Now we added pick 75 which is virtually worthless
We will be fighting it out with Gold Coast and Brisbane for our rightful wooden spoon prize in 2019.
Carlton should stop tanking.
The first 3 4th rounders in the 2018 draft took place at picks at pick 56 to 58 (worth 194 to 170 points)
The last 4th rounder was pick 69 (worth 49 points)
We got pick 67 from Carlton worth 69 points, it was the 3rd last pick in the 4th round
Hopefully it was the West Coast 4th rounder we sold
That would leave us with
OUT
2019 St Kilda 2nd round
2019 St Kilda 3rd round
2019 St Kilda 4th round
IN
2019 Gold Coast 4th round
2019 GWS 4th round
We don't have any 2nd round or 3rd round pick in 2019, instead we have 2 off 4th round picks in 2019.
Fortunately we have our 1st round pick still intact for now.

Re: Deep In Debt
Wouldn't worry too much, as we've seen in the 2018 draft, there is a lot of horse trading going on.
St Kilda is not the only club to trade their "next year" picks away, it is just that we focus on our team and get all worked up when in reality the 2019 draft is an entirely new ball game. For example, other clubs could make a raid on 1 or more Saints players at the end of season 2019 in exchange for early round draft picks, and that obviously would restore some balance.

Re: Deep In Debt
We will probably have one of the first 4 picks in the 2019 draft.
We must no sell that to bring in a player room another club
Bbut then we will have a little less than 270 points in useable draft day currency.
Worth about pick 50 as the draft progresses = middle to late 3rd pick.
If we want to capture non-free agent super star we will have to sell our 2020 2nd and 3rd rounders - we will hopefully use our 2020 1st round to bring Ben home at the end of 2020.

How much do you think we can sell Paddy McCartin to Geelong for, or maybe to Sydney to baby sit his younger brother ?

Re: Deep In Debt
The academy player is Biggy Nyuon who has some big wraps on him. F/Sons are Jackson Voss and Tyson Milne. Not sure about the father sons, both ok in their bottom age year but not a guarantee, from the little I know Voss is the more impressive of the two.

Re: Deep In Debt
Seems a bit like using one credit card to pay off another, can only end in tears. The debt must be consolidated. As Cairnsman alluded to, one or two key forwards, a couple of HBF's and a couple of inside mids should balance the ledger and maybe put us in credit.

Saints go for ready-made players with mature-aged trio
Dinny Navaratnam

ST KILDA showed the highlights reel of Robert Young for Graeme Allan and others in the list management team who didn't know about the North Adelaide small forward.
Young, 23, played 19 games for the Roosters this year and helped them win the SANFL flag.
NAB AFL DRAFT HUB Latest news, video and more
"We just watched his vision again to show a few of our recruiters like 'Gubby' Allan, who didn't know about him," football manager Simon Lethlean told reporters on Friday.
"He's quite an aggressive chase-down tackler. Played in the premiership for North Adelaide this year. He's certainly a forward 50 sort of player.
"Quick, aggressive and got a bit of agitation about him too, so he'll ruffle a few feathers."
WHO SMASHED IT? Your club's draft verdict
He wasn't the only mature-age pick-up, with South Fremantle forward Matthew Parker (22) and Essendon VFL wingman Nick Hind (24) also becoming Saints.
"We've got the second-youngest list in the comp at the moment. We've certainly added Max King and Jack Bytel with our first two picks, but felt it was time to put some mature-age guys in that mix as well," Lethlean said.
While their age was an advantage, there was another attribute St Kilda desired.
"They're three really fast players too. They have the pace that we need at our club," Lethlean said.
The additions of Parker and Young in particular will give the Saints more flexibility.
"It'll allow Jade Gresham and Jack Billings a bit more time in the midfield too," Lethlean said.
"We talked about, 'Why take Max King if you need some mids?'. Well, we took (Hunter) Clark and (Nick) Coffield last year, we've added (Dan) Hannebery, we've added (Dean) Kent and Young (and) that will push Jack and Jade into the midfield too."
Inside ball-winner Jack Bytel was drafted at No.41 after struggling with back issues throughout 2018.
"Jack is a player that we thought would have been a first-round pick but for the injuries this year. I think he was the second-highest stat-getter behind Sam Walsh last year in the TAC Cup," Lethlean said.
He adds to an inside midfield unit that includes David Armitage, Luke Dunstan, Dan Hannebery, Seb Ross, Jack Steele and Jack Steven, but Lethlean wasn't concerned about having too many of the same type.
"Inside mids are pretty important. The best players will get picked and those that don't will move on. That's what you do," Lethlean said.
"You stock your club full of quality mids, and we're trying to do that."
The Saints don't have a second or third-round selection in the 2019 NAB AFL Draft, as was the case heading into this year's edition.
Lethlean predicted that would again change.
"We'll find our way back in," Lethlean said."

Re: Deep In Debt
A sons from Brett Voss and Stephen Milne.
I remember the Dads playing for us.
Where did the intervening years disappear.
We took Stephen Milne out from under Essendon's nose.
He was playing with Essendon's Reserves when we rookied him then elevated him to the senior list after a couple of years.
He was a late developer.
It was always a pleasure to beat Essendon with them having Milne up their noses.

Re: Deep In Debt
thanks Ace - have been waiting for a post draft wash up
Future draft trades are a minefield trying to work out future positions of 16 clubs will do anyones head in -
And Im not sure any of the recent future trades do anything for long term benefit and seem like really short burst sugar fix
Sydney seem to have a handle on it - first pick 26 but getting back in at 10 with Father/Son Blakey
Bold Bold bold move by the blues to get Stoker with future 1st - they will start to climb up in 2019 and theyre betting the crows will be one of the teams to slide

Who do we take with our first rounder in 2019
Dean Anderson son Noah or Nat Rowell in the midfield
Or do we take Luke Jackson as a agile ruck.

Dean Anderson son Noah or Nat Rowell in the midfield

Re: Deep In Debt
Trade a player and a second rounder (that we don't have) for a shockingly homesick Ben King.
