Picks 41, 47, 67 and 79
These are our picks after pick 4, which has utterly dominated all other trade threads.
But looking down the order...are there any gems who could slip through to 36 or 46?
Or some nice speculative picks or recycled players to go at 67 or 79?
Round Two - 36 - became 41 (Jack Bytel)
Round Three - 46 - became 47 (Matthew Parker)
TRADE - 54 (pick secured for our third round pick in 2019)
Round Four - 67
Round Five - 79
Some questions for the experts:
- Could Jacob Koschitzke slip to 36? A really strong long-term KPP defensive prospect (important given we axed Goddard and it's likely to be Brown's last year, with no guarantee Clavarino will make it). Being a cousin of a club great doesn't hurt. (Went to Hawthorn @ 52. Very disappointing, given he's an All-Australian).
- Would Tom McKenzie slip to our range because he didn't have an amazing year but the quickest player in the Combine?
- Xavier O'Halloran captained Vic Metro at the under-18 championships but looms as a nice midfielder-forward - could he free up Gresham to move into the middle? (EDIT: drafted by GWS @ Pick 22)
- Could Sydney Stack fall to the third or fourth round? And is he disciplined enough to make good on his massive talent?
- Where does Marlion Pickett fit in calculations? Is a 26-year old the right fit for us? Or would his X-factor help ignite a struggling team?
Knight's "Draft bargains" (http://www.espn.com.au/afl/story/_/id/2 ... 2018-draft) could provide some interesting thoughts for the later picks.

Apparantly we are taking Jok Jok with a late pick.

Maybe you could refrain from using that word unless you are going to quote a source or spell “apparently” correctly.tedtheodorelogan2018 wrote: ↑Wed 21 Nov 2018 6:51pm Apparantly we are taking Jok Jok with a late pick.

The past has shown that there are plenty of good players picked up at those numbers, this is what the recruiting team are paid for aren't they? Any spud can pick number 4 or 5, the genius is in spotting talent that others miss.

Re: Picks 36, 46, 67 and 79
"Sandringham Dragons prospects Max and Ben King, Harry Reynolds and Liam Stocker all support St Kilda..."
So too do Jye Caldwell (about 10) and Connor Rozee (likely Pick 5).
While we won't get Caldwell, Rozee, Stocker (20-ish) or Ben King, we could get Reynolds (tipped to be about 60 by Knightmare), who sounds like a very interesting player, with one of our final picks or possibly as a rookie.
Harry Reynolds talking on Brad Hardie's show: https://omny.fm/shows/breakfast-with-to ... fl-draftee
A very late developer but like the way he presents himself.

Please please don't take players because they are a cousin.
Nicholas Winmar was Nicky Winmar's cousin
Hugh Goddard was Brendon Goddard cousin.
Forget the name the player must earn their draft in their own right.

Re: Picks 39, 46, 67 and 79
Auto CORRECT
Academy and father-son queue jumping mean that all subsequent picks get pushed backwards one place early in the draft each time.
But if eventually when a single pick enabling the queue jump would have arrived the order is restored.
But when multiple late picks are used to secure the player, late order draft picks move forward.
Also some clubs may choose to pass on late picks once again causing late order draft picks to move forward.
So far there has been 3 queue jumps.
I am still investigating which picks were used to snare the academy players.

Re: Picks 36, 46, 67 and 79
North queue jumped to 8.
Pick 8 worth 1551 points but North only had to surrender 80% of that number = 1241points
They had stock piled picks 42, 47, 48, 55, 58
Pick 42 = 395
Pick 47 = 316
Pick 48 = 302
Pick 55 = 207
Pick 58 = 170
Total =1390
Surplus 149
I am not sure if they retain those 149 points for a late pick.
Pick 42 47 48 55 definitely go to back of draft.
Other picks move forward
Not sure what happens to 58
Sydney queue jump to 10 .
Pick 10 worth 1395 points but Sydney only had to surrender 80% of that number = 1116points
They had stock piled picks 26, 33, 38, 39, 40
But due to North queue jumping these have become 27, 34, 39, 40, 41
Pick 27 = 703
Pick 34 = 542
Total = 1245
Surplus = 71
Sydney decides to live trade
They sell pick 27 and 2019 2nd rounder
Get pick 25 and West Coast 2019 3rd rounder
Now it becomes
Pick 25 = 756
Pick 34 = 542
Total = 1298
Surplus = 182
This is Crazy
Why would you do that.
The trade must have been made earlier
When the picks involved were still 24 and 26
But then the AFL draft order shows West coast had pick 20 and 22 at the start.
This is wrong.
I give up.

So when we sold pick 28 to Melbourne we really sold pick 31 for pick 38 and 43 assuming no more intervening academy and father-son picks.on the outer wrote: ↑Thu 22 Nov 2018 10:10pm With teams using later selections to match bids,

Re: Picks 36, 46, 67 and 79
The dumbest thing with Winmar was taking him so early in the draft when he was a late/rookie option at best, with zero external interest. Players in the next ten picks after Winmar (32) included: Max Gawn (34), David Astbury (35), Jamie Macmillan (37), Sam Reid (38), Allan Christensen (40), Nathan Vardy (42), with Ben Stratton soon after (46). The club was incredibly stupid at the draft table during this period - largely ensuring we never kicked on in the post 2009-10 era.ace wrote: ↑Thu 22 Nov 2018 9:47pmevertonfc wrote: ↑Wed 21 Nov 2018 5:31pm These are our picks after pick 4, which has utterly dominated all other trade threads.
But looking down the order...are there any gems who could slip through to 36 or 46?
Or some nice speculative picks or recycled players to go at 67 or 79?
Round Two - 36
Round Three - 46
Round Four - 67
Round Five - 79
Some questions for the experts:
- Could Jacob Koschitzke slip to 36? A really strong long-term KPP defensive prospect (important given we axed Goddard and it's likely to be Brown's last year, with no guarantee Clavarino will make it). Being a cousin of a club great doesn't hurt.
- Would Tom McKenzie slip to our range because he didn't have an amazing year but the quickest player in the Combine?
- Xavier O'Halloran captained Vic Metro at the under-18 championships but looms as a nice midfielder-forward - could he free up Gresham to move into the middle?
- Could Sydney Stack fall to the third or fourth round? And is he disciplined enough to make good on his massive talent?
- Where does Marlion Pickett fit in calculations? Is a 26-year old the right fit for us? Or would his X-factor help ignite a struggling team?
Knight's "Draft bargains" (http://www.espn.com.au/afl/story/_/id/2 ... 2018-draft) could provide some interesting thoughts for the later picks.
Please please don't take players because they are a cousin.
Nicholas Winmar was Nicky Winmar's cousin
Hugh Goddard was Brendon Goddard cousin.
Forget the name the player must earn their draft in their own right.
Goddard was a slider and most here were pleased to get him when we did. That he didn’t develop was probably due to injuries as much as anything else. I wasn't unhappy using a low-20s pick on him.
Probably the kicker was Raph Clarke, who we all had such big hopes for and then...well.

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

Maybe that should be a thread.....cousins we have missed...or even any family relation....I am sure some of the "old timers" on here would have a few beauties from days gone by.kosifantutti wrote: ↑Fri 23 Nov 2018 5:59amDal Santo has a cousin as well.
