Possibly a matter of trust Roger. If Port are true to their word & Bailey Smith was always our target, provided none of Walsh, Lukosious or Rankine were available. 24 is a bonus as St Kilda have said they'll be using 5 picks at the draft plus a rookie.

24 is a lot better than 79.

Sure but the thing is we can take them anyway or get something perceived as more valuable by doing nothing.

If we want King, and we take Smith at 6 because Port snap him up at 5, is it worth it just to get a pick at 24.

We quite literally have all the bargaining power.

If they really want a player at pick 4 that won’t be there at 6 and it sounds like it’s part of a 3 pronged attack to keep the SA Boyd together...

So we've got one article today saying that we're keeping pick 4 and Fox reporting the exact opposite. The player we're into seems to change daily as well. Media outlets have clearly decided Saints supporters are good for some easy clicks. Tomorrow it's going to be Caldwell, the next day it's going to be Ben King that we've been targeting all along. By the time the draft actually happens we'll probably have a rumour of some absurd multi-team trade that'll never happen.

If we're genuinely into all of Rozee, Smith and King, trading down makes a lot of sense. Get a player we like and a second round pick as a bonus.

Please dont do this. There are 4 elites this year, then we drop in ability. this is all on paper of course but if we can get King, Rankin or Luko we get one of them. We dont trade down and get Smith. Not knocking the kid but btu he is an inside mid which we dont need. We need outside speed and a target up forward and in that order.

If we are genuinely split between 3 players, we may as well take the extra pick. If Port see us willing to trade with GC they may pony up with 5 /15 to get Rozee, but would be foolish to do so, and so almost certainly wont.

Another top 30 pick in this draft is definitely worth looking at.

If it is Smith we are after then I would take the chance and do the swap

GC take Rozee at 4 to keep the S.A. boys together and even if Port take Smith then King will still there on the board and then we have 24

Re: King - the guy is literally a beanpole and for sure he will get absolutely smashed by seasoned AFL backs - might not be body ready for another 5 to 6 years and then there is his knee ...... will it hold up??

Truth is we need mids with breakaway speed and spread - both Smith and Caldwell have it

I actually prefer Caldwell from what I have seen but Smith has low bust factor - would love to get another pick inside 15 but that's not going to happen - should get a decent player with 24 though

Whatever the order may be, the Top 4 will probably be: Walsh, Lukotious, Rankine and M King.

So it depends on who we want. We can probably safely say that Walsh, the best mid, won't be there at 4. Are we interested in any of the other 3, that's the question? If so we'd keep Pick 4.

If we're not interested in whoever of those is left at 4, then we probably want Smith or Rozee. So we've got to look at a trade as it would be daft to take Smith at 4, not taking the chance to get him and another 1st round pick.

If we got Pick 6, it would not guarantee we get the player we want? Pick 5 would be a safe bet.

So if we want Lukotious, Rankine or M King we keep Pick 4, if we want Smith or Rozee, we trade for Pick 5 and another.

I don't think 6 & 24 is a great deal. if we don't want one of the top 4, then Pick 5 & 15 from Port is the deal we want (5 & 10 would be great, but Port would have rocks in their head). It would ensure we got Smith and then another late first rounder.
