Billings yet to re-sign
http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-11-10/s ... ract-talks
Is he on the move? Or thinking of leaving? Have to admit, it's unusual that a club wants to re-sign a player and that player is resistant. He's coming into his final year of his contract. Maybe he's hoping that he has a break-out year and really boost his money. I thought he was on pretty good money already though.
Anyone heard anything about him?

Re: Billings yet to re-sign
I don't read anything in this article that would suggest that Billings is contemplating leaving the Saints. The most important quote from Billings is that he is looking forward to getting Brett Ratten to make him a better player. Look at this in the context of Tom Mitchell attributing his success wining the Brownlow this year directly to Brett Ratten, and you get a real sense of the excitement that lies ahead for both player and club.Moods wrote: ↑Sat 10 Nov 2018 5:25pm http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-11-10/s ... ract-talks

IMO we will wait & see how next season pans out . If he don't show marked improvement I reckon we will want out .

Whisper is he is worried about the new hydro pool at the new Moorabbin community Centre.

Re: Billings yet to re-sign
As others have mentioned he probably wants to see if the club is building towards success any time soon and also wants to make sure that he is paid what he's worth. If he re-signs right now on the back of his 2018 season he'd probably be offered about 450k per year. If he gets some confidence and starts kicking more goals than behinds then suddenly he could be a 25 disposal per game 35 goal per year player who's worth 800k per season.

Re: Billings yet to re-sign
Jack hardly set the game on fire this season. I think he was dropped at one point. Possibly he does not work well with AR who wasn't mentioned in the recent article only Brett Ratten, so sensible for both he and the club not to rush into a new contract although Billings would have to be concerned about his livelihood after 2019. The fact that a young former #3 pick now has less than a year on his contract shows all is not hunky dory, perhaps he was being treated as eminently tradeable but a suitable deal e.g. Shiel didn't eventuate and now relationships need to be repaired. Shame we can't get minutes from the exit interviews. ARs future must be weighing on the mind of all players that would get games elsewhere including Jack's. Also whether Jack has a long term future at the Saints might influence where he is played and how much game time he gets. Nevertheless if he can't get a tougher approach him going may not be so great a loss now but it would be a terrible disappointment, another wasted high draft pick and a leg up for an opposition club. Lets hope it all works out well for the Saints and he realises his enormous potential.

I reckon he won't sign until he knows AR is definitely leaving.

Re: Billings yet to re-sign
I think it's a combination of lots of things. Billings probably thinks he is better than he is and when he goes for a trade he will get a rude shock based off last year's efforts. Plus he isn't getting better under Richo either and he knows it. ratten to the rescue our too help pack his bags one of the two

Total BS Billings hasn't re-signed only because of Richo.
Posters that have admitted they were wrong about Hanna's gastro and the club didn't create a cover story.

I wonder what the bombers will offer us if he wants to go there next year now that they have no first rounder.

Re: Billings yet to re-sign
Rumoured the Bombers wanted to grab him for pick 9. Not sure what happened. Goal posts moved apparantly as they do. Might have something to do with Shiel.
The fact that an abundance of players have re-signed since Richo has been head coach tells me he is not an issue for players wanting to leave. No players have left that we wanted.
Allan is such a good bloke he's been trying to find Mav a club since being delisted.

Re: Billings yet to re-sign
Goal posts move no problems, but you are saying that it is BS that Billings wants to leave while also recently saying he was a done deal to leave, surely both things can't be true?tedtheodorelogan2018 wrote: ↑Mon 12 Nov 2018 5:14pm Rumoured the Bombers wanted to grab him for pick 9. If Alan was a good bloke he would have stopped playing Mav 2 years ago instead wasting valuable development time on a very average footballer. Ruining our club by playing favourite hacks.

Re: Billings yet to re-sign
According to an AFL article about the top 15 players out of contract next season, they are guesstimating Billing's value to be about $650K for 2020 onwards.
I personally hope he has a million dollar season next year then signs with us for $650K a year, turning his back on $700K offers.
A coming of age season plus sticking with the club would do wonders for our young list plus the club as a whole.
Oh, we pick up Kelly for the quoted $1.2 million a year on a 8 year deal. That's all I want Santa, promise!

My mistake Ted - Simon @BackFromUSA - did you remove this from the rules?
I'm sure it was there previously and seemed like a good basic platform for discussion to avoid sniping digs.

Re: Billings yet to re-sign
All of the comments about Billings and others delaying contract talks based on Richo's future at the club are totally off the mark, and shows that a lot of supporters are obsessed with a dislike/hatred of Alan Richardson and allow this to flavour their reaction to whether or not certain players will choose to remain at the club.
Get over it! The club has endorsed Richo as senior coach for 2019, and that's that. Far better to accept this as "it is what it is" and reserve further judgement until the 2019 season unfolds. None of us has inside information about what any of the players think of Richo, and if Acres recent support for Richo is a guide, then you have to believe that the players are confident in his ability to get them to improve next year. And if it's good enough for the players to back their senior coach, then that should be good enough for supporters as well.
As I posted earlier on this topic, I am backing Billings to become elite in 2019, under the guidance of Brett Ratten, and could well emulate Ratten's previous protege at Hawthorn, Tom Mitchell, and win a Brownlow.
