And our 3rd highest goalkicker was Newnes.DJ Higgins wrote: ↑Fri 19 Oct 2018 1:51pmWell that is just sad isn't it. Not so much his goals but there are only 3 better than a player who got next to no interest from other clubs.

It's all relative, club won 4 games, had no real stars. Internally those guys did a good job but outside looking in the stats aren't that promising. To explain that, a top 8 club would not go after Newnes nor Lonie as a reliable forwards to kick goals. The other way of looking at it is that those guys did a good job from limited opportunities.

We'd need to improve our delivery into the forward line,HitTheBoundary wrote: ↑Fri 19 Oct 2018 1:38pm If he can maintain his end of year form he will kick 40 goals next year.
A big ask - but a change in game plan may assist him. i.e. not using him as a marking target and an increase in our forwardline pressure.
In 2018 he was 4th in our goalkicking, ahead of Billings and McCartin despite playing less games than them.
it has to be twice as efficient as the last few years.
It's a big ask- and I don't care what new coaches we have, it just won't happen overnight.
Our guys cannot improve that much, it just won't happen.
not possible.

Re: Lonie 2 year deal and end of trade period
We need a decent game plan first not just the helter skelter bang it forward at all cost's & hope we can be on the end of a cheap one, hence that is why Gresham Newnes etc are among our leading goal kickers. We have (on paper at least) a decent forward line Membery,Paddy ,Bruce & Billings are very capable players but the game style & delivery just doesn't give them a chance. Getting smashed at the clearances doesn't help but that is why we need to recruit a gun midfielder or 2 to get some structure back into the team. Unfortunately we keep recruiting players & coaches that don't suit our needs & until that stops we will keep struggling to be a force again. I bet we recruit Max King & have nothing against the kid & would welcome him to the club but we are crying out for skilled midfielders & we will probably pick a tall forward that we already have plenty of.Lets hope we can turn things around but not filled with a lot of optimismWellardSaint wrote: ↑Fri 19 Oct 2018 8:15pmWe'd need to improve our delivery into the forward line,HitTheBoundary wrote: ↑Fri 19 Oct 2018 1:38pm If he can maintain his end of year form he will kick 40 goals next year.
