http://m.saints.com.au/news/2018-10-08/ ... -pick-no-4The Saints’ first-round draft pick has been adjusted to No. 4 ahead of the 2018 National Draft, the AFL confirmed on Monday afternoon.
As has long been expected, St Kilda slid one rung down in the draft order after Richmond successfully snared ex-Gold Coast captain Tom Lynch as a restricted free agent.
In line with free agency rules, Lynch’s value was assessed to be worthy of a first-round compensation pick in the upcoming draft, meaning the Suns will now head into this year’s draft armed with both picks 2 and 3.
The Saints currently hold picks 4, 59, 63, 65 and 77, but with the introduction of live trading in this year’s draft, that order has the potential to change.

We need the best available midfielder in the draft. I hope we don't lose sight of that yet again this year.

Our recruiters have a fetish for talls though. It seems they are hot for Max King despite is having Paddy, Bruce, Battle, Marshall and the "third tall" Membrey.

A good tall can win you a flag.
Good mids are a dime a dozen.
But let's get a fit tall this time!

Well Paddy has done nothing other than indicate he is a plodder, Bruce had one good season and has just done enough and not much more, Membrey is quality, and Battle and Marshall show some promise- yes we need more quality in the forward line, no matter what size.saintsRrising wrote: ↑Tue 09 Oct 2018 2:46pm

A classy midfielder with elite skills and good delivery will make the talls walk even taller - as well as snag one or two themselves.
We need more F50 entries and cleaner F50 entries... hence a classy, elite-skilled midfielder is both a priority and an imperative.

We need a mid who is short, can't take a contested mark, can't kick and can't handball. Oh, hang on!

Pretty predictable Gold Coast were always going to get a high pick for Lynch so no real surprise. Now that Shiel has gone we need to keep it & use it wisely .

Re: Saints slide to pick no. 4
perche?
You posted the cryptic "Wallace 2004" .. alluding I'm assuming to the fact that Richmond in 2004 went for mids instead of a tall and thus missed out on Franklin ... I'm pointing to the opposite of that
when we should have gone for the mids or a mid in 2014 instead of a tall (at this stage at least, and hopefully McCartin ends up being better than DeGoey and Brayshaw put together ) ... I could have made it more cryptic with "Elshaug 2014" .. and left it at that for you to decipher.

Let me guess, we'll draft some kid that is not up to AFL standard and delist him within 2 or 3 years, just like almost all of our draft picks in the last 11 years
