Top ten in the Brownlow count
Anyone willing to venture that Jack is not an A grade player and is out of his class among this lot.
If you do you know sfa about football.
1 Tom Mitchell 28
2 Steele Sidebottom 24
3 Angus Brayshaw 21
4 Patrick Cripps 20
5 Max Gawn 20
6 Rory Laird 19
7 Dustin Martin 19
8 Dayne Beams 18
9 Jack Steven 18
10 Brodie Grundy 17
11 Patrick Dangerfield 17
I for one was disgusted with Bruuuuuce's surprise that Jack finished so high.
He was after all predicted to come in the top 10 to 15 in the count.
He is every bit an A grader for mine and that is why the girls from sleepy hollow are still chasing him.

Yes, definitely A grade.
Posters that have admitted they were wrong about Hanna's gastro and the club didn't create a cover story.

At the Brownlow count, as opposed to in the Box, Bruce doesn't have people to correct him when he's jabberingsaynta wrote: ↑Tue 25 Sep 2018 11:28am Anyone willing to venture that Jack is not an A grade player and is out of his class among this lot.

Re: Top ten in the Brownlow count
It an incredible achievement from Stuv to finish Top 10 when you consider he played in a team that won 4.5 games. Even more meritorious when noted that those games were 'coached' by The Dribbler (who'll no doubt be annoyed with the Stuv's result as it likely came from "trying too hard").
Go you red, black & white warriors

Agree, Stuv is definitely A grade. Finished higher than Shiel for those saying Shiel is a much better player.
Amazing effort by Angus Brayshaw getting 3rd place at only 22 years of age. And to think he could have been on our list :/.

Interesting also that Angus could have been one head hit from having a far too early demise. Maybe the helmet has helped? if only for confidence

Re: Top ten in the Brownlow count
A great effort by Steven. He polled more than half of St Kilda's votes.
He polled votes in eight games including four BOG.
The club didn't poll any votes in nine games!
Four times winner of The Trevor Barker Award and now top ten finish in the Brownlow in a very poor year for the club, he surely deserves more recognition from the media and AA selectors.

Re: Top ten in the Brownlow count
Can you call a player that’s never been AA an A-grader?
I think he can play at that level, but has too many off games. Maybe he would benefit from not having to be the number one mid all the time.

Re: Top ten in the Brownlow count
Steven is awesome but it is a team game and rather than rubbing one out over a single individual player who we drafted a decade ago we should be disgusted that in a decade we havent managed to produce a player capable of taking votes away from Jack.
No you can't compare him to Shiel who is competing with Whitfield, Coniglio, Ward and Kelly for votes.

Same principle with Melbourne and Collingwood. Collingwood polled the most votes and Melbourne were second

Re: Top ten in the Brownlow count
This is an indictment:
96 - Collingwood
93 - Melbourne
90 - Hawthorn
88 - Geelong
81 - West Coast
78 - Richmond
76 - Greater Western Sydney
71 - Sydney
69 - Adelaide
68 - North Melbourne
65 - Essendon
62 - Port Adelaide
56 - Fremantle
47 - Western Bulldogs
45 - Brisbane
37 - Carlton
35 - St Kilda
31 - Gold Coast
We only polled 4 more than Gold Coast - and less than Carlton (who won 2 f@rking games)
The Brownlow is not the be all and end all - but it is a good indicator of how your players (in general) are travelling. And only St Kilda and Carlton had more than half of the votes accumulated by 1 person.

Sums it up for me. Played quite a few lack lustre games this season too. Jack seemed better later in the season, but we were done and dusted anyway.

Down there with GC and Carlton in total votes and people are upset the media don't give us due recognition.
Not sure the media say much about Rory Laird either.

Re: Top ten in the Brownlow count
A few things...
1) What does where a player finishes in the Brownlow matter?
I've never understood why a player is rated differently on the Monday afternoon before the Brownlow, than he is on the Tuesday morning after it. Makes absolutely zero sense. The Brownlow is merely the opinion of some umpires. The same umpires that everyone hangs s*** on for having such poor judgement every week! But then once a year we suddenly treat their opinion as gospel??! One of the more baffling things in world sport is the credence given to the Brownlow Medal, and the context that some people put it in.
2) The same could be said about the AA Team. Again, it's merely the opinion of a few people. Not only, it's the opinion of absolute cretins such as Cameron Ling, Luke Darcy and Danny Frawley FFS!!
I mean seriously.
The one thing that the AA selection generally does mean - is that you've had a very good year. However missing out merely means that a bunch of dudes with no more or less of an opinion than you, I, or Joe Blow from the coffee shop thought there were 22 other players that had better seasons.
3) Jack is a gun. Played a big chunk of the past two years injured, and still gives it everything. Genuine gun, who IMO would be on the elite in the comp in a really good midfield. It's no surprise that in all of our wins, probably over the past 3 years, he's been excellent. He is so important.

Re: Top ten in the Brownlow count
It's because he doesn't change the outcome of game consistently. He gets the ball, he's a great player, but not often he falls short of greatness when he's just right there. ....so close.
Still our best and still would trade him all day for a top forward.

If we didn't have jack Steven this year we'd be lucky to have won 2 games.

To be AA you need to be in the top 6 midfielders in the comp.StPeter wrote: ↑Tue 25 Sep 2018 1:16pm A great effort by Steven. He polled more than half of St Kilda's votes.

The club didn't poll any votes in nine games!
Four times winner of The Trevor Barker Award and now top ten finish in the Brownlow in a very poor year for the club, he surely deserves more recognition from the media and AA selectors.

If KB or Lingy, Darcehole or Gerard Whately sing your praises loudly and often enough you're always a chance.
There have been guys like Matt Pridis who missed out one year even when he clearly had an outstanding season.
