Been preaching this for years, just look at the way the WB and richmond have been able to groom players into roles and one falls over another comes in knowing exactly what to do. Also helps when players which come in are played in their right positions... but i digress

1. If we could have our own team we would. We have a slight problem though. We couldn't even fully fund an AFLW team so, how do you expect us to be able to fund a VFL Team? (which costs significantly more than AFLW)?

2. Anyone bothered to notice what Hawthorn and Box Hill have managed to achieve?

It's far too simplistic to say that just because you have your own VFL team you do better as an AFL team. Yes, it helps - but it's not the be all and end all.
