Goodbye to a horrendous season
What a taxing, painful shocking season.
One of the worst if not the worst I have experienced relative to expectation.
Dull soulless football in a half empty stadium.
Richardson would have to be the most protected senior coach in the history of AFL. A list manager, 3 Assistant Coaches, the President, a board member and no doubt some players will be casualties of 2018.
Let the trading begin, let’s see the club go through another rebuild on the board and in thefootball department.
RIP 2018 thank god for 2019!!!

I said goodbye in round 2!

Re: Goodbye to a horrendous season
Good riddance to season 2018, there will be delistings and possibly trades.
I just hope we don't recruit any GOPs, Spuds or half back flankers.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Nothing to look forward to with Richo at the helm in 2019. Bring on 2020.

Re: Goodbye to a horrendous season
This reminds me of the bad old days when we had Milan Faletic, as well as others who were substandard,
then after we moved to Waverley, and endured more pain.
This is rather personal, but I remember sitting in a hospice with a terminally-ill family member (who had cancer)
and he insisted i put on the radio to listen to the game against the Injectors.
The hospice is in Caulfield, and I remember the miserable relentless rain through the window, thinking about
the horrible conditions at Arctic Park, and listening to the Injectors thrash us by 114 points.
The other patient in the shared ward- his 30-something son was speaking with his father
but occasionally listening to the broadcast-
he was a "diehard Saints fan" although he had never been to a game in his life "because I have to work on weekends"
and he couldn't listen on the radio either.
Just checked the scores in the paper.
After the game, we got into a discussion about the team, and (this is true) he argued with me over Plugger winning the Charlie in a tie with Platten.
"Plugger always gets suspended, he's never won a Brownlow, you're mistaken!"
this was in the days of no internet, so I couldn't prove it to him.
As he was about to leave, he bid his pop farewell, then shook my hand, said "Go Saints" and said
"listen, you're wrong about Lockett, he never got a Brownlow"
I think his father got moved to another ward a few days later, so our paths never crossed again,
but what a stupid stupid flog.

Re: Goodbye to a horrendous season
Richo is the coaching equivalent of Milan Faletic, Jody Arnol, Tim "Gumby" Elliott, Aaron Fiona (misspelt on purpose)Myron Gaines wrote: ↑Sun 26 Aug 2018 8:39pm Nothing to look forward to with Richo at the helm in 2019. Bring on 2020.
About "Gumby"...
I remember in 1998, I moved from Melbourne to Perth.
The internet was new and raw, and St Kilda (other clubs too, maybe)
allowed fans to post comments direct to their fan forum on their official website.
No such thing as moderators to vet all posts.
I started a thread on Tim "Gumby" Elliott (in my username of "sicko boy")
and it drew a huge amount of comments, some defending the spud, and some hating on me.
One game, whenever Elliott touched the ball, the crowd would roar, and the commentators said "this player has been targeted"
or something, and the fans were rising to cheer him on.
That was ME !!!!!
hahahah
and how long did he last?

Yep Richo's game plan & coaching skills are as good as mine , so predicable & so bad. It wont matter who we pick up or delist if he is in control we are pretty much doomed just need to cut our loses move forward because next year will be the same if not worse

Season over. everyone can breathe easy now. Expect a lot of delistings now/ We should get Rankine or Smith in the draft and get a few players back nest year. I am now signing off until draft night

What are you all talking about. That was only our 4th worst season since 1990. Sheeeesh.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

Re: Goodbye to a horrendous season
It doesn't give me any joy to say this but I remember posting before the first practice game this season back in February that I felt that we would not improve this season due to the fact that I believed that we were (and are) still playing like we were in 2015. There has been no improvement in our ability to re-set our game plan during matches when teams get a run on against us.
I didn't believe we'd go backwards though- that much did surprise me.
I don't think the players can possibly be as bad as to lose 17 games this season. Development and training is appalling. Injuries have magnified the problem, but the whole system and hierarchy at our football club needs a complete overhaul.

Awful season. Can’t remember ever having been so disappointed in our club.
Roll on trade week and the draft; there needs to be something we can salvage to give hope.

Re: Goodbye to a horrendous season
Odd really when his predecessor was given the boot so quickly when there was a hint of unrest among the players.
The previous coach wanted to leverage off some of the experienced players ( who were worth plenty as trade bait ) and do a total rebuild but...that would have upset a few individuals and they'd already split them up from 2 of their best mates.
Here we are nearly at the 5th anniversary after Watters was sacked by this board and we are back to square 1.
In fact we are probably needing to cull even harder than when Richo was first appointed. At least this time there's no Roo or other senior players who are powerful enough to get in the way of doing it properly

Re: Goodbye to a horrendous season
We have had plenty of worse seasons.
But agree this has been probably our worst season EVER relative to EXPECTATIONS.
Expected 6th to 8th spot with exciting centre corridor footy.
Got 16th with soulless conservative inept turnover footy.
Perhaps the shortest highlight reel for any season (unless you want footage to go with the Benny Hill theme).
The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.

Re: Goodbye to a horrendous season
This season has knocked the absolutely stuffing out of me. The end of it couldn't have come sooner.
Now, FFS, StKFC, give us some reason to feel optimistic for 2019. You can start by telling Mr. Richardson to clear out his desk. His brand of mindless kick-in-hope footy has run its full course.

Massive changes coming apparantly. We are going all out this trade and FA period like none other in recent history. Big changes to the footy departmemt and the way things are done too.
