Re: A look at our list
You can add Hickey as well, he is not of AFL standard, when he looks like he might be, he either plays bruise free footy or his body let's him down!!!!!
I wouldn't be giving Freeman a new contract either, he has lost all of he's strengths, well done to him for persisting, but he is just an average Joe now!!!!!

Re: A look at our list
Dunstan...slow, poor endurance, poor disposal...TRADE
Newnes.. what happened? A player who plays it safe and lacks creativity...TRADE
Longer...the least skilful player in the AFL ...TRADE
Gilbert...great career, can hold his head high, but it may be time...RETIRE
Stevens..RETIRED
Wright..VFL level player in the mould of Geary...DELIST
Weller..Hard working B grader who has lost all form...TRADE
Lonie...at his size he needs to have more going for him. Van only play as a small forward...it's a toss of the coin whether to keep, trade, or de-list
I also fear Roberton's career may be over. Very sad if true. One of our better players

Re: A look at our list
Good on Freeman for his resilience and getting a game under his belt.
Unfotunately for him l think he will not be offered another contract.
He has no longer got what was the one ingredient we all wanted him to have....his speed
and breakaway pace. Whether he is only going at 80% to protect his hammy or has just not got
the strength and therefore confidence in them is semantics really....
While possessions look good on paper and certainly we all got/get excited with his Sandy stats
the unfortunate reality is they are not damaging or are in areas on the ground that hurt the opposition.
The 'type' of stats he has been getting at Sandy tells me this is the reason it has taken so long for him
to be selected, notwithstanding how ordinary the 22 collective have been in the seniors.
You can bang on about game plan, coaching, ball movement, lack of leadership, non development of players
or would be better in a stronger team discussion but what we need are players who will improve and take us forward.....Freeman is not one of these - sadly.

Re: A look at our list
FFS! Freeman has one game, doesn't set the world on fire, and people ready to move him on. Using that rationality 99% of AFL players would never play again after game 1. So what if he doesnt have full speed yet he can work on other parts of his game until he has full confidence in his body again. Seriously, get a grip people.

Re: A look at our list
Well Freeman obviously still needs to work on other aspects of his game if he is to be part of the Saints senior team.bergsone wrote:Agree,Freeman is the least of our problems.Would get picked up by other clubs if delisted.A one game saint, stupid ideastkfc1 wrote: βSun 05 Aug 2018 2:57pm FFS! Re: A look at our list
Fair enough having an opinion, both Wright,Lonie and others have had more chances by being able to play,Goddard has also had terrible run with injuries.I would be keeping Freeman before some others

Agree there are a few in front of him....sad reflection of our list.
There in lies the problem, 10 or so list changes realistically needed, but the incoming 10
need to be upgrades or potential upgrades on the departing.

Of course you're allowed an opinion. I'm allowed to disagree with it. Thats the beauty of fan forums!! We can agree to disagree.
Goddard I'd definitely keep. Brown wont be around forever and his last few games in VFL he's been showing some good form. He may not end up being AFL standard but worth finding out.
Lonie I'm in two minds about. He definitely has some elite skills and at least he's starting to hit the scoreboard but has poor decision-making (he's not alone there) and defintley needs to work on his physicality, which both can be improved with time. Different type of player but I think Acres and Lonie have similar issues. Long seems a better option going forward.
Agree Wright is done. Shame as his speed is something we're desperately in need of. Never seemed to recover from that horrific jaw injury.
Please feel free to agree or disagree with me.

What's that mean.....give him a break?
I wasn't bagging him, actually commended him on getting a game.
I just don't think he is a part of our squad going forward.
I may be incorrect....
19 possessions in 80% ToG
You must have been happy with Billings' output of 27 from 92% ToG ?

People saying freeman's body is shot I don't agree.. Hes only 23 and kids at that age have a remarkable ability to recover.
He may not totally have his explosive speed and confidence back yet but he hasn't had a knee reco. No reason he can't get explosive again

I'm not being a smartarse, just a genuine question because I'm not sure of the evidence and history of other athletes with similar problems. Are the muscles able to repair and grow unimpeded? Does he have any scar tissue or will ther be other physical barriers to regain that explosiveness?

Re: A look at our list
Lonie played well in the 1st Q but is a player who needs others playing well around him and as the game went on he didn't have that. In a team going well he will prove to be a valuable player. A keeper (in the hope we will improve).

Re: A look at our list
would much rather we keep our players, with the exception of some of those we traded in like weller, who haven't performed at two clubs, or the older leaders that have failed to lead, like newnes.
get in a new coaching group and give the players a chance to perform under them. cut those that don't.
just don't think it right to give up on players that we have drafted into the worst coaching group in the league and stuffed up their careers. we owe them.
