We need some arrogance in our side
It seems today we have a team of quality people but very few show arrogance or absolute confidence in their abilities.
I believe for a few this can be taught but for most it is a natural trait. Every team needs these guys.
Going through our list I can't find one player outside Gresham who shows this trait regularly.
Comparing our side to 2010 side - look at the amount of personalities who were the types unafraid to stick their neck out.
1 Jason Gram – often showed arrogance - (especially on the piss)
4 Clinton Jones – unafraid to tag anyone – fearless (unless going for goal.)
7 Lenny Hayes
10 Steven Baker - not a natural player but executed well by foot and fearless.
11 Leigh Montagna – very confident in his ability
12 Nick Riewoldt
13 Adam Schneider – cocky and plucky
15 Michael Gardiner – Called himself the big show
18 Brendon Goddard – very confident in his abilities
24 Sean Dempster – would take on anyone
25 Sam Fisher – very confident with ball in hand and defending
26 Nick Dal Santo – very confident
44 Stephen Milne – the king of arrogance
Players like this lift those around them. The current mob are scared of success and scared to win/kick goals/be the man.
Lets draft more of these types - even if they are rough around the edges.

Great post. Totally agree. And you go back to the 2005 side to add Hamill, Gehrig, Jones, Black, Hudghton, Powell... its why I'm petitioning for a Carlisle captaincy

Marshall calls himself The Prospect. I think he has a bit of that in him from what I've seen so far.

Like to see a bit of mongrel in Paddy.
It always annoyed how me Trout would crap on about 'good family, level head on his shoulders....'
Who f*****' cares? Can they hit a 20 cent piece from 50 meters out while sprinting through heavy traffic 95 times in a hundred?

Re: We need some arrogance in our side
Watch how arrogant half our team becomes when they start winning more than losing. No point bragging when there's nothing to brag about
You could probably find 10 or more individual players in each of the top 8 teams and there'd be several teams with plenty of blokes that have a swagger and certain arrogance, but I'd rather players that can perform consistently and have a touch of class. Who would you rather have in your team right now; Josh Kelly or Jake Stringer?
Give me Andrew McCleod, Gavin Wanganeen or Sean Burgoyne anyday of the week. They just go about their business and deliver consistently on the big stage. Same with guys like Gary Ablett Jnr, Judd and Dangerfield

I take Carey, G-Train, Lockett, M.Voss Aker, Buckley etc over your mob!!!!!
Each to their own, I like my players to be strong and confident!!!!!

Re: We need some arrogance in our side
Have a look at Rhys Stanley's stats the last couple of weeks.
http://www.afl.com.au/match-centre/2018 ... time-stats
Rhys held his own against Gawn 2 weeks ago and he was one of their best in that match with 21 disposals and 5 inside 50's.
Against Brisbane same. Stanley had 8 clearances against Brisbane and that was same as Dary Ablett Jnr. Had 16 disposals at 100% DE.

Re: We need some arrogance in our side
Ok so stuff it!! Don't worry about a recruitment manager and talent scouts. Just employ psychologists so we can draft arrogant 18 year old kids. First it was good kids, from good homes with good character and now it's arrogant types. One bloody extreme to another.

Re: We need some arrogance in our side
I don't have anything against arrogant types and most of the blokes mentioned are champions. Most of them were shy at 18saynta wrote: ↑Mon 30 Jul 2018 4:38pmNothing wrong with any of the players mentioned by SC.groupie1 wrote: ↑Mon 30 Jul 2018 4:31pmAgreed on all counts therestonecold wrote: ↑Mon 30 Jul 2018 4:29pmWrong on Dangerfield, he is as good as it gets when it comes to arrogance!!!!!Scollop wrote: ↑Mon 30 Jul 2018 4:24pm Watch how arrogant half our team becomes when they start winning more than losing

Re: We need some arrogance in our side
Lockett has always shunned the limelight - far from arrogant. Robert Harvey - about as far away from arrogant as you can get. Baldock - nope. Stewart - maybe (?). Barker - flamboyant but not really arrogant. Riewoldt - not particularly arrogant.
We just need good players!

Re: We need some arrogance in our side
There is a difference between arrogant on a footy field an arrogant off it.
I know plugger. A very nice shy man. Stewart , while more outgoing was far from arrogant.

That's your problem Scolly, all you worry about is stats and being a good guy, I prefer hardness and arrogance!!!!!Scollop wrote: ↑Mon 30 Jul 2018 4:41pmHave a look at Rhys Stanley's stats the last couple of weeks.

Well....I would not get too hung up about Rhys Stanley's achievements over a couple of weeks. Apparently at the Cattery their fans refer to Stanley as 'Jane'.....why?.... because he ain't Tarzan.Scollop wrote: ↑Mon 30 Jul 2018 4:41pmHave a look at Rhys Stanley's stats the last couple of weeks.

jam the arrogance...gimme skill..then they can carry on any way they like.. better still gimme some people in charge to make that happen.
