Darren Minchington
I heard a whisper that we really rate this bloke because he's a smart footballer
Doesn't give away silly frees. In fact he holds the record out of all current AFL players with 18 consecutive games without giving away any frees to the opposition
If you promise not to tell I'll share with you where I heard the whisper. I'll name names

Re: Darren Minchington
Champion Data and the AFL's Cameron Sinclair provided the stats. Marc McGowan collated it all on some obscure website called afl.com

Re: Darren Minchington
Good pressure small forward when fit. I hope he stays on the list. We could really do with his speed and tackling pressure in the forward half. Poor bugger just has no luck. Plus he knows how to kick a snag or two and has good foot skills.Scollop wrote: ↑Tue 24 Jul 2018 9:06pm I heard a whisper that we really rate this bloke because he's a smart footballer

If he could get consistency with his body he could become a decent midfielder IMO.

Always seems to play well when picked then gets dumped. Obviously we don't know what he isn't doing that get's him dropped but looks a good player.

Re: Darren Minchington
Ben is a lock for the next ten years if his body holds up
Minch is only 24 and provides good upside. I compared Darren's stats for 2017 versus Mav Weller and there wasn't much difference. Darren was infront in some key areas like tackles, goals, and goal assists. Mav had a very good 2016 and Richo kept playing Mav last year in the hope that he would emulate his form from 2016. Hopefully Darren stays on the list
There is another guy that I'd definitely have Meatball ahead of. Would be hilarious if Richo and co delist Meatball and keep Lonie.

I would keep Meatball over Lonie, if I had to choose between the two, having said that, I think they both should go!!!!!Scollop wrote: ↑Wed 25 Jul 2018 3:22pmBen is a lock for the next ten years if his body holds up

Re: Darren Minchington
One of those unlucky players whose body failed him at the wrong time.
Could be a decent player if given the right opportunity but that wont happen now.
Been on the list too long to keep waiting.
Unfortunately rightly or wrongly I feel his time is up.

Re: Darren Minchington
One of those stat/data companies not that long ago had Sinclair as our only "elite" player on our list.
No disrespect but there'd be a few players picked before him I would think.

You can debate the data and stats and interpret them slightly differently but they provide the most objective raw data and criteria available to compare players. Below are the stats I was referring to from the Footywire website

I kept reading a while ago that every club should have 10-12 players going through the midfield. One of those could be Minch as he is an onballer and not a small forward. How come we only use 4 or 5 all the time? Players like 8cres, Billings, Gresham, Clark, Coffield even Long should go through there (or through more often).
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”

If you don't take possession you won't give away a free for holding the ball.Scollop wrote: ↑Tue 24 Jul 2018 9:06pm I heard a whisper that we really rate this bloke because he's a smart footballer

If you don't go in hard and make tackles you will never be pinged for over the shoulder or in the back.
Hey if you don't go near the ball you won't give away any free kicks.

I suspect one of Minch or Lonie will be cut.stonecold wrote: ↑Wed 25 Jul 2018 3:30pmI would keep Meatball over Lonie, if I had to choose between the two, having said that, I think they both should go!!!!!Scollop wrote: ↑Wed 25 Jul 2018 3:22pmBen is a lock for the next ten years if his body holds up

Neither is a best 22 player.
They only get games when injuries force.
Certainly they will not be in our clubs next premiership winning team.
We don't need both.
Pretty obvious Lonie gets more games - Minch is gone.

Re: Darren Minchington
I wouldn’t mind if Minch and Lonie were both delisted, as both have had ample chances.
If we had to keep one Minch would be my pick, although I can’t see Richo delisting his “Boy Friday” Lonie.

Re: Darren Minchington
I was surprised at how Minch was dropped after his last lot of senior appearances. I get the feeling that there is only one thing in Richo's coaching bag- defensive pressure..if a player hasn't got enough defensive pressure in just one game, then out he goes. I don't hear Richo talk much about attacking structures- forward play etc..and looking at our poor scoring efforts this season, you would get the impression that not as much work is put into this aspect of the team structure. I think a good coach would make a good player out of Minch.
