Saints played for Richo today v Melbourne
People can disagree, but the players did plenty right today and busted their guts for Richo. It could be a game changer this one. We probably should have won by 4-5 goals realistically in the end.
Plus Richo and the assistants did outcoach and outsmart the Demons coaches today. All commentators and experts agreed on that.
Well done to the club today. Hopefully we are back on track now. f*** knows why a performance like that didn't happen more regularly this year.

Agree but in the last five minutes we went defensive and nearly lost the game.parkeysainter wrote: ↑Sun 01 Jul 2018 5:00pm People can disagree, but the players did plenty right today and busted their guts for Richo. The exciting attacking game had got that Z0 point lead and they shouldn’t have tried to save it.

Absolutely coached well today, picked apart their weakness with ease which was the transition out of defence quickly into the forward line, many goals scored with end to end stuff, Melbourne had nothing. Clearly did his homework.

Ahhh - maybe Richo needs 2 weeks to do his homework - maybe that is the problem!
I know I used to always leave it to the last minute!

Credit where it's due. Because he is startimg to get players back the players can acrually execute the game plan.Sainter_Dad wrote: ↑Sun 01 Jul 2018 5:08pmAhhh - maybe Richo needs 2 weeks to do his homework - maybe that is the problem!

We beat a top 8 side minus, Roberton, Acres, Bruce, Stevens and lost Brown during the game.

I don't know why Seb Ross and then later quite a few others were sent back with over 5 mins to go. Too defensive - nearly cost us the game. You do that in the last minute or so. Was it because we were one short & running out of puff?longtimesaint wrote: ↑Sun 01 Jul 2018 5:05pmAgree but in the last five minutes we went defensive and nearly lost the game.parkeysainter wrote: ↑Sun 01 Jul 2018 5:00pm People can disagree, but the players did plenty right today and busted their guts for Richo. Probably - teams lose conditioning having a week off - so that makes the win even more impressive!takeaway wrote: ↑Sun 01 Jul 2018 5:55pmI don't know why Seb Ross and then later quite a few others were sent back with over 5 mins to go. Usually after the week off we are as flat as a tack!

Re: Saints played for Richo today v Melbourne
I got a little excited when I saw Gresh and Steven sprinting like mad after the ball from the centre bounce with 30 seconds left. That was grit and determination from those two and it caused a mismatch so we won the ball. Great 1%'s to get the win.

Seb also said last week they got Richo into the circle to sing the song as well. Seems like he still has the faith of the playing group

Re: Saints played for Richo today v Melbourne
Clearly a change of game style today, goes back to the last qtr v GC. No longer are guys getting the ball and looking backwards for the handball . may lead to turnovers but keeps the ball moving forward also, which is a hell of a lot better than turning it over towards the opposition goals.

Re: Saints played for Richo today v Melbourne
Everyone understands that this is a brutal caper and if you don't perform your career could be on the line, so I wouldn't be concluding that "Saints played for Richo today"
Are you saying they weren't earlier in the year?
Or did they find out he's not going to be sacked straight away and it took them a few weeks to accept it and then build back some good form

Don't think you are right on either point. In fact I would put money on the fact that you are wrong. Dead wrong.iwantmeseats wrote: ↑Sun 01 Jul 2018 6:21pm He still couldn’t coach pigs to get dirty and is a dead man walking.

The players had to do it themselves, they have been poor for weeks. It is about time they stood up to be counted. Cant keep pointing the finger at the Coach/s & recruiting all of the time.

Re: Saints played for Richo today v Melbourne
And Webster and Long. Agree on Long. He is going to be a jet and I was so disappointed when he went down with a LTI because it robbed him of valuable development time. So an impressive win in the context of missing players. Our list isn't as bad as some say. Calls for a clean out we're an over reaction but understandable.Saintmatt wrote: ↑Sun 01 Jul 2018 8:26pmAhem ... Re: Saints played for Richo today v Melbourne
Seems most agree that AR still has the players and can coach.

Correct
Don’t believe in this “they did it for Richo” crap
Players pulled a finger out, some are playing for careers
Thank god Melbourne are soft underbelly

most would agree on the first point. he just seems a very likeable chap, or rather very hard to dislike.parkeysainter wrote: ↑Mon 02 Jul 2018 10:44pm Seems most agree that AR still has the players and can coach.
on the second point, a good win that adds a notch to his belt, but it's a long belt with very few notches.
all we can go by is what we see, and that is a few occasional glimpses of a bright future, some workman like wins, some 'brave' losses, some understandable ones, and a heck of a lot of dire performances.
big game next week as port have a lot more to play for, whilst we are hopefully burning to reverse last years painful loss.

Re: Saints played for Richo today v Melbourne
Can't agree just yet, possibly because I have invested a lot of consideration into concluding Richo can't coach well at AFL level. So pleased we won, nevertheless, Melbourne kicked first 3 and we looked same same poor and were maybe lucky not to be further behind (commentators went into scorn mode as soon as they could). Am inclined to agree with posts above that suggest players are playing despite AR not for him. To lose most of the 22 point 3/4 lead rather than bury the Dees was just as poor coaching as at the start. Had no plan for Gawn - e.g. a Marshall in the team could have harassed Maxy together with Billy. Battle, Carslile and Gresham were outstanding as was some of the defending - McKenzie is really improving as is Clark, he was so good. Most played strong, there seems a team spirit finally. I still wonder if AR understands where that has come from.

Re: Saints played for Richo today v Melbourne
Of course the players are playing for;
1. The coach
2. Their team mates, and,
3. Their careers.
Silly to suggest otherwise.

Re: Saints played for Richo today v Melbourne
Richo has finally sorted out the forward movement and forward entries over the bye. For the first time in 12 months the team with their run from defence and ball movement actually looked organised. The team were enjoying their footy again, but WHY has it taken so bloody long to get organised?
It was nice to see, I still think we would benefit from significantly reducing the amount of times we handball backwards from our setups. Our kick to handball ratio is still too handball heavy and would be balanced out changing that practice.
