I just cry watching that....
Hamill Riewoldt Jones Goddard Hayes Harvey Milne Dal Santo Guerra Gehrig Powell Hudgton and no flag and not even a GF appearance - yes close in 04 but close doesn't get you there
I maintain Thomas had the best of it the mix / blend was right
Frrrrrrk me

Prelim 05 - No Kosi, Hamil, Peckett, Fisher
Fiora was the swap we got for Black... bent over there
Ackland was the guy we were stuck with because we couldn’t trade in a ruck

Aaaaaaaaahhhhhh
Can we wind the click back to 2004 and have another go.
But this time with just a smidgen of luck.

2004 what a team! Best team we've had in my life time.
Now look what we have to watch...

Great team but felt like the backline lacked a bit. Amazing mids and forward line.

So much spirit. So much talent. So much fun. GT is very reasoned too.

I really think Thomas should be back in some capacity would bring a lot of confidence back to the players and get the best out. I also reckon he might have got its all about me or dictatorship out of his system

Re: THIS is what a team of A Graders looks like
2004 was without a doubt the most exciting and entertaining season of footy in my lifetime as a Saints fan. The prelim loss was the hardest loss to take that I have seen. Absolutely tragic that this team didn't go all the way in September. Geez we had some incredible elite talent back then. We don't have one player as good as the 2004 versions of Riewoldt, Harvey, Ball, Dal Santo, Gehrig, Milne, Hayes or Jones right now

Well you can thank Mr Tony Elshaug for the most inept and incompetent recruiting of all time over the last decade.ralphsmith wrote: ↑Sun 27 May 2018 8:05pm 2004 what a team! Best team we've had in my life time.

Historically this is a very St.Kilda like mentality... resort back to something from the past that got reasonable results a long time ago. Now I’m a bigger GT fan than most but his ideas...
- No passenger ruckman
- Community training camps
- Leadership groups
All ahead of their time but now commonplace themes.
Don’t know if GT has any new ideas anymore.
PS - I note your post wasn’t suggesting he coach... so don’t consider this an attack. Just a thought I had in response to your post.

In my opinion, looking back to history and learning from the past is a GOOD THING! That's how the human race moves forward...by learning from previous mistakes, successes and experiments.skeptic wrote: ↑Mon 28 May 2018 6:09pmHistorically this is a very St.Kilda like mentality... resort back to something from the past that got reasonable results a long time ago. Your points:
- No passenger ruckman : Well this would work....IF WE HAD A DECENT RUCKMAN!
- Community training camps: I have no idea what you're even on about here
- Leadership groups: Great idea - now all we need are some decent players capable of being on field leaders!
I see so many posts like this...fluffing the existing group to be something that they are not. It's the equivalent of polishing a turd.
Time for Armitage, Weller, Savage, Billings, Newnes, Sinclair to move on at seasons end. Time to recruit fierce competitors, and talented footballers.
No more turd polishing.

Re: THIS is what a team of A Graders looks like
The best list the club had and couldn’t get us to the big dance once when he had TOTAL control of the club and people want to bring him back??
If he was as innovative on field with his coaching as his “training services” off field corporate mumbo jumbo maybe we’d have a flag??
Don’t think Clarkson worries himself to much with off field spin ....
Bring back the man who made me feel good they say...it’s why this club has failed for so long

Honestly the reason the Saints haven't won the big dance with all those great players you harp on about, was our bottom six in all those years weren't just average they were well below that

You’ve criticised me for fluffing up the existing group when my post was entirely about the topic of whether GT should coach again.
Dude you’re quite literally in an argument btw yourself and an imaginary poster that has posted things only you can see.

Ägree 100% the drafting and player development has been disgraceful, the first change that needs to be made is the sacking of who ever is in charge of recruiting and draftingsaintadamski wrote: ↑Mon 28 May 2018 4:40pmWell you can thank Mr Tony Elshaug for the most inept and incompetent recruiting of all time over the last decade.ralphsmith wrote: ↑Sun 27 May 2018 8:05pm 2004 what a team!
