Re: KobyStevens
I mentioned in the injury thread the other day He would be of greater concern than Paddy...
the video report a couple of weeks ago mentioned his ongoing issues.

Re: KobyStevens
This idiotic 'manic pressure' mantra is to blame.
'Pressure' does not mean charging head first into contests without any control. I fear Richardson doesn't understand this.
I fear that he doesn't understand that real 'pressure' means to execute the basic defensive techniques really, really well.
This is why some of the greatest 'pressure' teams of all time don't look manic. Hawthorn recently were the best pressure team of the modern era - but there was complete control over their pressure. It's about effort - but more so technique.
One could say that they had a method, whereas Richardson just brings the madness.
Seeing McCartin 'crash a pack' with his head yet again, almost makes me wish that he sues Richardson when he retires after only 30 games.
Telling a young number 1 draft pick to go out and crash packs with f****** 'pressure' when in reality there is no legal way to crash a pack these days without going in head first is moronic at best, grossly negligent at worst.
Not only has Richardson made several young, highly skilled juniors into below par plodders with suburban footskills - he's running the risk of cutting guys' careers short if he keeps this irresponsible nonsense up.

Re: KobyStevens
Sinclair went to Perth as one of two travelling emergencies but Battle came back earlier and played for Sandy.

Re: Koby Stevens
Really upsetting news if true...
I really rate that kid and a significant head injury pbly plays a big part in how his set shots dipped so badly so quickly from last year.
Have always been super impressed with his toughness and his ability to get the ball in addition to his defensive game.
Will be a really big loss if it goes this way... really needed his experience but obviously his health comes first. Hope he’s ok and doesn’t go the way of Bret Hart.
A few parallels there I don’t like

Re: Koby Stevens
Could be.
But maybe not?
Dempster's already retired. Koby looks to be close. Roberton has had about 100 concussions in recent years, ditto Dunstan and Newnes.
And of course Paddy.
I have no doubt that Paddy's is a technique thing. He's constantly told to 'crash the packs', but there is no legal way to do that these days. Hawkins knows this, and has been getting done for kneeing dudes in the back. You can't use your knees, you certainly can't use your forearm or elbow, and even if you use your shoulder you're going to get done for charging.
So Paddy leads with his head.
It's ridiculous.
There are so many poor technique issues surrounding this team, that either they're taught the wrong way, neglected to be taught the correct way or Richardson can't coach - he simply can't get through to the players.

Re: Koby Stevens
I know it was extremely wet in Adelaide last night, but I couldn't help observing how the game of football we once knew has changed. A lot. Ad for the worse. Last night it looked more like a pin-ball game with multiple balls. I winced before nearly every contest because you could see the impending danger for any player.
There will be a lot more concussions and a lot more premature retirements because of the way the game is now being played. Far too much congestion, umpires unwilling to blow the whistle and break up the packs. Dare I say if the game was played like this when I was a boy I would never have wanted to play.
And my view on protective head wear is changing. I believe there is enough evidence the AFL is ignoring its duty of care by not, at minimum, researching and trialing head protection before mandating it for all players. Jockeys and trots drivers have worn protective vests for years and the incidence of serious injuries to the torso from falls has decreases. Unfortunately, AFL prefers the he-man image at is peril.
