Paddy Scanlan (VFL)
Bob McCaskill (VFL)
Bill Stephen* (VFL)

Peter Knights (VFL/AFL)
Robert Shaw (AFL)

Allan Richardson (AFL)

These are the worst performed coaches in VFL/AFL history to reach 100 games coached.

* Bill Stephen won 1 final's game.

LOL

So you think actually winning games in the real world is meaningless?

I assume you gentlemen have some more lofty spiritual ambitions in the higher multiverse?

It is relevant because it describes what this mess of a club is all about. I hope Richardson smashes this record in his remaining tenure of 2 years, I would put my hard earned on that

Bored so I looked at what other teams have won or lost since Richo was appointed.

We have won 35 games.
Carlton, Brisbane, Essendon and Gold Coast have won less.
Melbourne are only just ahead.

Richo is not in the bottom quarter based on his win loss ratio since appointment.

However there is obviously a problem for teams that bottom out. The equalisation process does not work.

All those other teams have been through a few coaches in that time.

We've been VERY patient with Richo and don't appear to be going anywhere.
Players don't get better -- they stagnate or get worse.

We have won 34/96 = 35%.

[Goodwin 17/31 = 55%.]

Essendon had a year BAN FFS.

So really you are painting a very rosy picture.

Who cares? He’s apparently a nice bloke and the media like him, so what more could we ask for???

34/97

Even if we win the next 3 in a row (we wont), Richo would still be 37/100 and the worst 100 game coach in AFL history since Robert Shaw.

I’m not one for sacking the coach, but the numbers are not good for Richo…

Wins After 9 matches in final season as St Kilda Coach (1990-2018)

Stan Alves – 6 (1998)
Grant Thomas – 5 (2006)
Ken Sheldon – 3 (1993)
Ross Lyon – 3 (2011)
Scott Watters – 2 (2013)
Malcolm Blight – 2 (2001)
Tim Watson – 0 (2000)

Alan Richardson – 1 (2018)

Longest Winless Streak in final season as St Kilda Coach (1990-2018)

Tim Watson – 10 games
Scott Watters – 7 games
Ken Sheldon – 5 games
Malcolm Blight – 5 games
Stan Alves – 4 games
Ross Lyon – 3 games
Grant Thomas – 2 games

Alan Richardson – 8 games*

Percentage Decrease in Wins from 2nd Last Season to Final Season as St Kilda Coach (1990-2018)

Tim Watson – 80% (10 wins in 1999, 2 wins in 2000)
Scott Watters – 58% (12 wins in 2012, 5 wins in 2013)
Ken Sheldon – 33% (15 wins in 1992, 10 wins in 1993)
Ross Lyon – 29% (17 wins in 2010, 12 wins in 2011)
Stan Alves – 24% (17 wins in 1997, 13 wins in 1998)
Grant Thomas – 7% (15 wins in 2005, 14 wins in 2006)

Alan Richardson – 80% (5 wins in 2017, 1 win in 2018) *after 9 matches

Average Team Score in Final Season as St Kilda Coach (1990-2018)

Ken Sheldon – 102 (1993)
Stan Alves – 95 (1998)
Grant Thomas – 93 (2006)
Malcolm Blight – 89 (2001)
Ross Lyon – 85 (2011)
Tim Watson – 84 (2000)
Scott Watters – 80 (2013)

Alan Richardson – 65 (2018) *after 9 matches

Unless we can beat at least one of Richmond, West Coast or Sydney over the next three weeks, Richo will be the worst performed in all the above stats.

Richo - 34/98

Robert Shaw - 45/130

So Richo still has a while to go yet.

Neck and neck.
