Fantastic Footy Flashback: Sirengate @ York Park 2006
Note the superior quality of the Channel 9 coverage vs pathetic Chanel 7

No we weren't robbed but bad kicking yet again I see by the final score.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

The right outcome in the aftermath.
But I do wonder, if it was one of the big Melbourne clubs would the AFL have upheld the rules at the time and then changed them so it wouldn’t happen again???
Just like they did with the blackout in 1996. The AFL enforced a rule and then changed it as soon as they could afterward. Now if a game is called off before half time is a draw and after half time the team in front gets the 4 points.
And, of course, there are going to be no more drawn Grand Finals.
It’s good to be a Saint.

Re Sirengate - Not sure how over riding a rule that has stood for over a century is fair?Ape_Man wrote:The right outcome in the aftermath.

And explain to me how letting James Turd play in Blackout part2 complies with the rules?
The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.
They can even WATCH LIVE FOOTY!

I think that it was in the 'spirit of the game' to give the win to Freo. I just don't know that it would have happened if it was, say, Collingwood that was playing that day. .Possibly the rules would have stood that day and changed in a big press conference during the week,Enrico_Misso wrote:Re Sirengate - Not sure how over riding a rule that has stood for over a century is fair?Ape_Man wrote:The right outcome in the aftermath.

My point of the blackout game was that it was a farce and the AFL changed the rules after it let the current rules play there course. Which means I totally agree with you.

Nah the main thing that irked me about that game was the Freo coach on the ground.
Lenny was right to tell him to flower off.

Yeah we lost the game fair and square and everyone can see it, I don’t want to steal any wins by dodgy technicalities.
Common sense prevailed, right outcome in the end.

Agreed. Nine’s coverage was always superior to Seven.saintspremiers wrote:

But in this day and age where the major broadcasters aren’t nearly as profitable but still WAY overpaying for sports rights, the production quality of all channels has really nosedived. It’s all about quantity over quality these days.
Bad management is bad management

I miss Peter McKenna.
And his blatantly full forward biased commentary.
I mean check this out.

How good was Skillbert McAdam in that last quarter?

That was my favourite St Kilda team ever!!!!
Lockett, Winmar, Harvey, Loewe, Burke, Grant, McAdam, Devenport, Mick Bloody Dwyer, Spud, Grant, Kickett, Devenport, Pekin, Vidovic ....
That team should have won a premiership.
I was at that game and remember clearly that I thought number 35 was going to be pretty good.
I need a shower.

After spending some time contemplating this video I think people in high places should watch this.
I know the game has changed and moved on, but the skills in this are unbelievable.
The skills under pressure and the pace are brilliant. And this is the last quarter in an era without a squillion interchange. There are contested marks on every line!!!
Peak Football.
