Hickey and Weller
Well done Tom Hickey and Mav Weller. Weller had 25, and Hickey had 18 touches. Some of the ground work by Hickey was excellent and he laid a few tackles and put in some important shepherds. He gives us so much more than Longer. He was able to link up and involve himself in a chain of possessions on many occasions. How Longer gets the nod over this guy is just beyond me. Mav had a tough 2017 with that ankle. Today he showed that intensity that we love about him. He sets the tone in enthusiasm, aggression, and attack on the ball. Surely Lonie will not get picked ahead of him again.

Re: Hickey and Weller
It was the Weller and Hickey of old today. It was a rewind back to 2016 and we have missed them. Another reminder why we shouldn't write off blokes too quickly.
Weller especially. What a raging bull. He is back to full fitness.

Re: Hickey and Weller
Hickey was good and thought Weller was ok.
Weller needs to stop thinking he can win the game off his own boot. He can be a bit selfish at times.

Re: Hickey and Weller
Liked Hickey's game also. Felt like he got beaten quite badly in the last quarter though. Might need to blow some of the rust out when it comes to playing an AFL intensity match.

Re: Hickey and Weller
good thread... both were goodin 2016 and terrible in 2017
Both had very good games, one iof Weller's very best IMO.
Offers much more than Lonie when he plays like that

Oh,.., and throw in Brandon White. It was like a time machine watching a guy play in the 80's the way he went about it

Re: Hickey and Weller
Both were fantastic today, Man was back to his aggressive self but also won a lot more ball, he looks fit and healthy for the first time in a long time. Hickey should always be our number one ruck, he at least gives us options around the ground, a great effort today.
Coffield and White were my highlight today, we can build a side around these guys, their aggression, speed and skill were just fantastic.

Re: Hickey and Weller
Hickey was good. But let’s be realistic, his opponent was Dawson Simpson who I don’t rate. Also, he was still well beaten in the last qtr.
Positive step forward for him, but still a bit off his best yet.

Re: Hickey and Weller
I think the selectors are getting it right after the 1st few rounds...
Longer & Armitage out & starting to play Hickey, Dunstan, Weller & the new boys in Coffield and Clark...
I want to see Battle in soon as well.....

Re: Hickey and Weller
Weller has a long way to go but Hickey had confidence and played a great game. That bs free kick turnover f***ed him and he should have got the confidence early.

Re: Hickey and Weller
Pretty simple. Hickey has been very ordinary at any level for 12 months. On todays performance, he will keep his spot. Hopefully he can built on that game and do it against the A grade ruckscwrcyn wrote:Well done Tom Hickey and Mav Weller. Weller had 25, and Hickey had 18 touches. Re: Hickey and Weller
We just need a better option that 8cres as second ruck because that his wrecking his game. When I said 8cres should be in the middle I didn't mean right in the middle, Richo!
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

Re: Hickey and Weller
We have resolution....
Hickey to stay in.
Longer to stay out.
Hickey offers so much more than just being a tap ruckman.

McEvoy next week! Oh, the irony ...
And bring in a second ruckman please. Billy the kid Longer if he does the business for Sandy today, or holler for a Marshall.
