Jamie Cox?
I notice there's been a lot of criticism of both the coaching and recruitment departments, much of it justified. I have a question. What does Jamie Cox actually do, and what are his duties and responsibilities? You see, Jamie was hired back in 2014 after Chris Pelchen departed in somewhat acrimonious circumstances.
We had just finished last and the rebuild was already well on. As I understand it, JC (omen?) was supposed to resurrect (sorry) the Football Department. His official titles have been the Manager, Football performance, a position he was demoted from when Simon Lethlean took over in January. He then was put into a newly created position, being the Manager of Emerging Football Programs, which will involve the formation of the Southern Saints, as St Kilda’s pathway to AFLW 2020. He will also oversee St Kilda’s VFL alignment with Sandringham and partnership with Frankston, as well as the club’s talent pathway through the Next Generation Academy.
My question is this, given his less than spectacular performance in his previous position, should he then have been entrusted with another role that involves player development? Is this another case of a job for the boys? It would appear that our staff is starting to resemble the Australian Test team, in that it's harder to get out of the team than get into it.

Re: Jamie Cox?
Good question. What it shows up is that the whole club needs a proper Tigers like extern review. Not sure if Finnis would agree to that though.
Has anyone read Yellow & Black?
That’s the Tigers book. Someone I spoke to yeaterday said it’s a great read and gives good insight, regardless of who you follow.

No good. He needs to go and he can take Elshaug with him.

He's on Twitter a fair bit.
Everyone's mate.
To be honest, I don't really know what he does, so it is hard to rate him.

Re: Jamie Cox?
That's my point, big red. One can only assume whatever it was that he did, he didn't do it satisfactorily, otherwise he'd still be in that position. After all, the manager of the football and high performance department ranks only behind the CEO in the organisational structure. Even the coach would've been answering to him.bigred wrote:He's on Twitter a fair bit.

Clearly, Finnis didn't think he was doing the job, although that might have been a harsh call at that time. It looks a more justifiable call since we've slumped, but there is an alternative explanation. What worries me, is looking in from the outside, you might presume that Lethlean was parachuted in by the AFL in order to save or revive his career. Someone had to make room and it looks like that someone was JC. It also gives Gilligan another AFL man to keep a close eye on us.
If it's the latter explanation, that is a cause for concern. Are we being manipulated from the outside to an unacceptable extent? Was JC given an especially created position as compensation for getting unfairly demoted. It does make you wonder, or am I being too skeptical? The AFL would never meddle in a club's affairs, would it?

We have more AFL plants in our admin than anyone.
Finnis is an AFL puppet without any doubt...And Lethlean. I mean seriously...

Was clearly moved aside for Lethlean.
I have a family member who deals with him in his current role
And can not speak highly enough of him and what he does.

The one who needs to go is our expert specialist kicking coach!

Re: Jamie Cox?
That's what I suspect as well, Junior. Up until half way through last year he seemed to be doing ok, if not setting the world on fire. In their desperation to get Lethlean back into the industry, I suspect there had to be a sacrificial lamb and when the music stopped, JC didn't have a chair to sit on. Then they gave him his consolation prize. I hope for our sake that Lethlean is the supposed gun his supporters at AFL house tell us he is. It's a brutal business, this AFL. It seems cronyism is valued above all else.Junior wrote:Was clearly moved aside for Lethlean.

BTW, Enrico, who is our kicking coach? Apart from Dixon, does anyone have that particular portfolio?Enrico_Misso wrote:The one who needs to go is our expert specialist kicking coach!

Too many at the club focused on getting a women's team into the competition.
Not enough concentration on what really matters.

+1. So much yes. Also - unabated virtue signaling. Is there a cause - other than winning actual games of AFL footy - that we haven’t stuck our noses into supporting?ace wrote:Too many at the club focused on getting a women's team into the competition.
