But for both of the Saints top ten picks to recommit to the club in a period it is struggling to find form speaks volumes for the culture at Moorabin.
“Our group is very young, everyone is growing together. I think our best footy is better than anyone’s,” Clark said.
“We’ve got such a bright future, I think we’re the third youngest team in the league,” Coffield said.
“The coaching staff are awesome as well, trying to get the best out of us, which is encouraging. It was a no-brainer to re-sign.”
Now committed to the Saints at least until 2021, Clark and Coffield reflected on how they wanted to be known as when their contracts ended.
“Someone that’s loyal and would do anything for the team. Put the team’s success above their individual success,” Coffield said.
Clark, after a pause: “I just want to be known as tough. I want people to think of me as someone who will always put their head of the footy, no matter who it is I’m up against.”

Thank you very much. Well done boys and welcome aboard for the long haul. A massive win for the club in all circles. Great stuff.
I'm sure some flogsock or two on here will try paint this great news in a negative light.

Re: New teammates and Friends -Coffield and Clark sign to 2
Interesting. What happens if one of them gets an ACL this year and we have another Goddard injury prone situation?
Yes I know it’s unlikely but we’ve effectively given them both 4 year contracts whilst unproven.

Yes it’s good news. The bad news is that we are absolutely crap at developing players. Dunstan, Lonie, Gresham, and others all looked red hot after their first years and have since gone backwards.SuperDuper wrote:its good news..

What if both of them win Norm Smith Medals? Yes I know it’s unlikely but we’ve effectively given them both a show of faith.saintspremiers wrote:Interesting. What happens if one of them gets an ACL this year and we have another Goddard injury prone situation?

That is really big. The kids can play and obviously have bought into the club from the inside. Shows the supporter base losing confidence is irrelevant. Players' belief is real.

Agreed. Its a huge vote of confidence in the coaches, playing group and club from these two. Of course, many on here will conveniently ignore this fact and Clark and Coffs words.Shaggy wrote:That is really big. The kids can play and obviously have bought into the club from the inside. Re: New teammates and Friends -Coffield and Clark sign to 2
If all clubs thought this way, there wouldn't be a player in the league on a contract longer than 12 months. I would understand if either of them had a history of injuries but surely you don't negotiate contracts based on what might happensaintspremiers wrote:Interesting. Re: New teammates and Friends -Coffield and Clark sign to 2
What a relief. At last a little ray of sunshine in amongst the gloom. It seems there is a trend emerging of clubs locking away high draftees very early in the piece to deter potential suitors. Rayner, LDU and now our two. Smart move. Coffield looks a beauty with Clarke not far behind.
