"Consistent Saints Footy" - J. Geary
In the absence of anything reassuring from the club I resorted to reading D. Bartlett's latest article and the Captain's comment that there needs to be consistent Saints footy played by the team. But are we not consistent: according to DB Saints lost last 5 of 7 in 2017, all JTL don't-matter matches, and now 1 of 2 in 2018. How more consistent can you be. As a lot have written, the 2yr coaching extension is/was puzzling. I would feel comforted if the Board explained its reasoning, and the coach set out his expectations for the team and the individuals in it. Then you can watch the plan unfold or just abandon hope for 2018 and move on mentally. I so want a good performance Saturday and will be there, but I fear we will be consistent again. That first Tigers game last year was such a cruel tease.

"saints footy"...such meaningless dribble.
What does that actually mean? Euphamistic nonsense.

I expect that we will be very consistent for the rest of the year.

It’s their attempt to benchmark performance standards. Appears at the moment to be all hot air without substance.iwantmeseats wrote:"saints footy"...such meaningless dribble.

I still don't get how we didn't seem to give a stuff after the Essendon game last year.
The coach just brushed that off meekly.

It’s embarrassing that this team is STILL talking about becoming a consistent outfit. They talk so much s**t. ‘Saints footy’ was a Lyon team mantra... a premiership contending team that brought it rain, hail or shine. This list is barely a shadow of that team.

Maybe we need to try a bit of Hawks or Swans footy. Whatever we’re doing ain’t working.

Re: "Consistent Saints Footy" - J. Geary
The Saints just need to stop playing like cream puffs and start playing like they want to win every contest, no matter what. Last year in the Maddie match, they played with great desire and desperation for Roo, and after that and the Carlise incident, they stopped playing for Richo..says it all I think. You only fix that problem by changing coaches, it can't be turned around.

Re: "Consistent Saints Footy" - J. Geary
it's not the coach.
The tigers realised what they were lacking - which wasn't the coach - and recruited the missing pieces.
Freo has done the same - recruited well (Brad Hill, Matera etc..) - and kept their 0-10 coach. They should improve this year (they couldn't get any worse).
We need a couple of quality midfielders - outside types - that's all. Our recruiters have given us too many inside midfielders and average ruckmen. We are a bottom 4 side under any coach.

I am late to this but that game last year was the biggest let down i can remember (well until last friday).Con Gorozidis wrote:I still don't get how we didn't seem to give a stuff after the Essendon game last year.
The coach just brushed that off meekly.
In the lead up to that game we were sitting 7th (equal points with 4th place team port adelaide), after 3 wins in a row, after a great win against richmond and then got utterly and completely smashed by essendon, and then the following week against sydney as well ( i think we lost by around 60 points both games). We were also 2 games clear of essendon and 1 game clear of sydney at the stage of the year (round 17). Our percentage was around 108.
Since then we have won 3 games (including round 1 this year) and lost 6. Average losing margin of 44 points (would be higher if we had not have lost to port adelaide last year by 2 points).
Anyways, since round 17 last year, when we lose, we get obliterated.
Sigh.

You are so correct Wellard Saint! So correct, believe me! We cannot ignore climate change, no we cannot, no matter what some folks might tell you. But those folks, they are peddling fake news! Fake news! Can you believe that!?!? Climate change is happening right now! We cannot ignore this fact. And nobody knows this fact like I do, nobody does. Climate change and Stormy nights. Do nothing, and they will make you lose sleep, believe me. So in response, we need to start burning more coal to stay warm, as we go from summer to winter, believe me! #makingclimatechangegrateWellardSaint wrote:yes, just ignore the %oh when the wrote:Geary lost me when he said we don't worry abt percentage

...flaccid, putrid performances. Even some of the ones we won weren't far off! So, lets ditch 'Saints Footy' and do something that resembles basic football at the very least, please.

Re: "Consistent Saints Footy" - J. Geary
This is what Saints Footy means to me;
The term 'Saints Footy' originated in 09/10 when we were good and played a brand of footy the supporters loved and the opposition respected. Whilst the examples of 'Saints Footy' have dried up over the years, there has been a bit to get us (well me and my mates at the very least) through the tough times where we are encouraged to keep coming back and supporting the boys! I for one loved hearing Geary refer to it as it isn't a term that was brainstormed in a focus group, it is something that was organically created by the players then in turn, carried on by the fans. Some examples of 'Saints Footy' below;
2011: Smacked Adelaide in round 18 by 103 points on a Friday night.
2012: Smacking Essendon in round 15 by 71 points then Bulldogs in round 18 by 76 points
2013: The round 23 send off to Milney, Kosi, and Blake still remains as one of my favourite matches of all time.
2014: Following the announcement of Lenny retiring, we came out in round 18 and smacked a red-hot Fremantle by 58 points
2015: The fifth-biggest comeback against the dogs in round 6; pinching it from the dees in the final seconds in round 11; smacking essendon by 110 points in round 14; the draw against the cats in round 21
2016: Beating collingwood in the 50th anniversary at the G in round 3; beating the cats by 3 points in rd 14
2017: smacking hawthorn in Tassie by 75 points (first team to beat them there) in round 6; beating GWS on Friday night in round 7; beating dockers over there by 9 points in round 15; Maddies Match in round 16 was pure Saints Footy; the 2 point loss against Port in round 19 stung but we gained respect for that performance; backing up the port game and beating the eagles in a close one
