Dunstan too good for this level. Same as Lonie, although he struggles at AFL.
Weller and Dunstan to come in?

"It says plenty about the performance at Etihad Stadium that one of the few positives to come out of Round 2 came across town at Coburg’s Piranha Park.
Contested ball specialist Luke Dunstan and pressure king Mav Weller were the standouts in Sandringham’s win over Coburg, while youngsters Rowan Marshall, Brandon White, and Bailey Rice were others to impress.
Dunstan collected 36 disposals and won 15 clearances as he stalks a spot in the Saints’ engine room that has lost the contested-possession count two weeks in a row.
The left-footer was one of the St Kilda’s best in the latter stages of last season but was squeezed out of the starting 22 for the first two rounds of the AFL season.
Mav Weller is another likely to come under strong consideration for a senior recall in Round 3 after bagging five goals for the Zebras in an ominous display.
The small forward was a man on a mission in Friday’s practice match, racking up 25 touches and throwing himself at the contest.
Jack Lonie (three goals) also hit the scoreboard, swapping between the forward line and the midfield, while Marshall (two goals) again showcased his agility and versatility.
With Billy Longer copping a knock in the Saints’ loss to North Melbourne, the 21-year-old could be headed for a match-up with Adelaide’s Sam Jacobs next Saturday night.
Veteran Sam Gilbert sat out the clash as the carry-over emergency, so it was left to Brandon White (22 disposals), Bailey Rice (24) and Hugh Goddard to control the defensive half for the Zebras.
White, with his penetrating left-boot, was one of the most damaging men on the ground in Friday’s hit-out, while Rice’s foot skills were also a feature.
Josh Battle presented well up forward to finish with three goals, while rookie Doulton Langlands managed two.
Dan McKenzie, Nathan Wright and Ed Phillips all had their moments, while Nick Coffield showed glimpses of his class with ball in hand.
The Zebras kick off their season on Saturday April 7 against Footscray at Trevor Barker Oval."
Time to give a couple of youngsters a game.

Same here. His highlights look awesome. Very quick. Only 18. Nice size.portosaint wrote:I'll be a keen observer on Langlands this year.
Personally I would like to see Dunstan, White, Rice, Marshall, Langlands, Battle and Coffield all come in to the AFL side.
The coach is kidding himself if he thinks he can go anywhere with his current mature players. It should be a development year.
Mature GOPs like Longer, Koby, Armo, Newnes, Brown and Savage are seriously just clogging the list.

Went to the game and it was all a bit
Scrappy.
My thoughts on the players were as follows.
Hickey played better as the game went on, took a few strong marks and was good in the middle. Saw him against the same ruckman in the VFL last year and thought last year that he was beaten and allowed himself to be physically man handled not the case yesterday.
Dunstan was best on ground by a mile was everywhere, way to good for this level . Copped a knock in the face thought he had broken his nose but came back on and dominated.
Lonie kicked a few and got a bit of the ball. He is too good at VFL level but there was two areas of his game that are a concern that I do not think he can correct. Firstly at least twice he had the ball lkicked to his advantage with and both times he did not have the speed to capitalise. The other are was tackles not sticking. If you are as small as he is you
need speed or tricks. Does not appear to have speed and I ammot sure what is trick is. Has a real dip but needs to add something to his game.
Goddard was good down back, took some nice pack marks used the balk well, most pleasing was that he looked like he was covering the ground as good as I have seen him.
Austin was steady is a nice kick had him behind Hodsaed on yesterday’s game.
Battle was steady, don’t be fooled by the three goals there were a couple of cheap goals. Worked hard using his endurance, don’t think he has the size to be a key forward at AFL level more a Jack Gunstan type.
Phillips was okay but not a real standout.
White played well, like him as a player strong in the contest and got a bit of the ball.Needs to learn to lower his eyes instead of kicking long all the time.
Coffield was super impressive so composed for a kid and looks a good decision maker. Took the game on and used the ball well. Got crunched but was okay, shocking hair cut.
Wright kicked a goal but did not do a lot and has very little composure.
McKenzie no real impact on the game.
Rice was excellent best defender on the ground. Tough and kicked it well. One of the leading possession getters despite being stuck on the bench for nearly 10 minutes due to his rotation not coming off. Not an athlete but a footballer.
Joyce was steady but has improved a heap since last season. Good pace a reasonable kick but would be behind Goddard and Austin.
Cornelllan was a bit hot and cold. But he is so quick and has a good leap, thumping kick. Has something about him, would like to see him use his pace a bit more defensively.
Marshall played well and kicked a couple. Is really good around the ground. Issue I see is that he gets his hands to a lot of marks and puts them down. Improve this and we have a player as he can kick and get the footy.
Weller played well and kicked five had a heap of the ball. Couple of cheap goals out the back but was excellent .
Langlands did not get a heap of it but has some X factor with his pace and kicking.
Miller struggled and there were a couple of times that his intensity was not great.
On what i saw I would consider the following for seniors.
Dunstan
Weller
Coffield
Rice
Hickey
Marshall
White

Thanks kosi,
I reckon richo needs to show a pair this week and "be really strong in the contest" at the selection table, make a statement.
Out: Longer, Bruce, Stevens, Clark, Brown
In: Hickey, Marshall, Dunstan, Coffield, Austin

Not looking to get into a slanging match SC, but Longers first game and a half before tearing a scrotum wasn't up to scratch anyway.
And if he's not fit or injured, then let him get fit before playing AFL footy…

Yes, fair enough, he is not fit, but has been playing, because of no form from Hickey and Marshall not ready for first ruck yet!!!!!dragit wrote:Not looking to get into a slanging match SC, but Longers first game and a half before tearing a scrotum wasn't up to scratch anyway.

Fair enough, as previously stated though, Mav did play most of last season with a trashed ankle!!!!!dragit wrote:No doubt, but I would like to see more than one good practice match from him after last year.stonecold wrote:Weller will be in, mark my words!!!!!
So, without being rude, he shouldn't be judged on that if you apply the Hickey rule to it!!!!!

Interesting dragit. I had three of your ins in my round one side. Marshall, Dunstan and Coffield. I'd throw White in as well, if he's done his penance for whatever sin that kept him out most of last year. He has some raw ability and he can kick and run.dragit wrote:Thanks kosi,

White should come in for newnes
Newnes is a classic list clogger. Racks up possessions which covers the crack in his game - he can’t kick!! We need players that can execute with the ball in hand
