Sorry SMS, Lonie tries hard and might have a career, but he is not even in our best 22 IMO atm. His skills are not the best by a long shot.SMS wrote:By gun I dont mean best in league.Con Gorozidis wrote:OP thinks Lonie is a 'gun' and I am an idiot.

Kelly is a gun. Martin is a gun. Dangerfield is a gun. Wines is a gun. Bont is a gun.
Lonie is nothing near these players. Get a grip.
Sick of fantasists on here.
Lonie is fringe in a mediocre side at absolute best.
I meant gun as in top a 10 player for us. Lonies football brain and skill is elite. Id say lonies skill is the best we have. Laser by foot. Hopefully he can get to next level. We need that precision and smarts.

Have to agree... I reckon the kid can turn it around and personally back him to do it (as his skills in the VFL are good) but big difference in potential and actual... he needs to take his chances and show his stiff in 2018parkeysainter wrote:Sorry SMS, Lonie tries hard and might have a career, but he is not even in our best 22 IMO atm. 100% agree, Lonie would possibly be in our Top 10 in the VFL but wouldn't be in our Top 25 at AFL.parkeysainter wrote:Sorry SMS, Lonie tries hard and might have a career, but he is not even in our best 22 IMO atm. Re: PREVIEW - Saints v Lions Round 1 2018
Classic case of a bloke that is too good for the VFL, but can't put it all together just yet at AFL level. Reminds of players like Templeton, Minchington, Wright, etc. Still a good effort for any kid to get drafted though and play AFL. He does try and train hard like most blokes on any AFL list.skeptic wrote:Have to agree... A pretty good team, I like Ross on the wing as it opens a spot to fit Dunstan, Armo and Acres. However, Richo CAN NOT play Gilbert. Gilberts poor form has tied his hands. If he plays him it sends a terrible message to the young playing group. Coffield will and deserves to play.saintbob wrote:B: Webster. Brown. Newnes

Well I'm sick of idiots not noticing that he cannot stick a tackle at senior level.Lonie has earnt his spot. Sick of idiots not getting the fact he is a gun.
He is a gun at VFL level, but cannot take that next step.
I really hope he can prove me wrong, but I think he is a list clogger of the highest order. He is taking a spot from... well anyone.

I watched the replay of the JLT games where Lonie was supposedly good. He was not good. Still loves kicking points or straight to opposition defenders. He still cant tackle. Seriously he is so far from a gun its not funny.bigred wrote:Well I'm sick of idiots not noticing that he cannot stick a tackle at senior level.Lonie has earnt his spot. Compare him to that Jack Graham bloke who is younger than Lonie. The bloke is an animal. When he tackles you go down. He hits hard.

This is the team we will go with.
Lonie has earnt his spot. Sick of idiots not getting the fact he is a gun.
Was out best against carlton and again BOG in sandy match today.
We MUST and SHOULD win his game easily. Kick long to leading targets, no handballing to stationary people or bombing the ball without crumbers there and we should be fine.
Personally want to see tiger style forward entries with lonie gresh armo at the feet of the big boys
Want to see billings smash it with many forward 50 entries.
Most of all want Paddy to get a bag of 5+.
Why waste time on “awkward no tap” hickey and “no run” longer when marshall has it all!! Hope he gets the gig.
Coffield in two praccy fames has already gone past newnes and id be happy for clark to get gig over newnes ... but he wont.
IF RICHO doesnt play coffield, lonie and plays weller & gilbert instead (whoch probably will happen) I WILL SPEW UP!!
TIP: SAINTS by 26 points
Thoughts? Match Ups?
I also suspect it won't be named like this and we'll be Weller'ed, Glibert'ed, etc. I'd drop Brown for White. Lookin' ahead to the future and no beast to worry about at Brisbane

Re: PREVIEW - Saints v Lions Round 1 2018
sorry. my mistake. I didn't look close enough.
I don't agree on Lonie, but I'd be wrapped for him if he proved me wrong.
Team I'd like:
Roberton Battle Geary
Savage. Carlisle. Coffield
J.Sinclair. S.Ross. J.Billings.
Armitage Bruce. Acres
Gresham McCartin. Membrey
Marshall. J.Steven. Dunstan
J.Steele, Clark, Stevens, M Long
M Long probably doesn't deserve it, but throw caution to the wind and send some signals to Webster and Newnes to get their s*** together

I reckon Long will be a gun, but is lost in the forward line atm. Yes, a direct swap with Webster might just work in giving him a direct opponent down back.groupie1 wrote:sorry. my mistake. I didn't look close enough.

FWIW Webster, to me was more effective in Game 2 when closer to the back pocket. I have the feeling he tries too hard at the bullet pass when further up the ground

Like that team, PS and is probably very close to what they'll go with. I can't help thinking Gilbo will get a game, as he seems to be a crucial part of the coach's overall plan. Offers versatility that Webster can't. I know the knocks on Gilbo, but he's still worth a spot. Just. It would be great to see Clark and Coffield get a start.parkeysainter wrote:My team:

Re: PREVIEW - Saints v Lions Round 1 2018
Hopefully the guys will run into a bit of form this weekend! I don’t think Brisbane will kick a winning score but they’ll probably be pretty good early and have a crack.
Once their legs get tired, the saints will have their way in the second half. St Kilda by 45 points.
McCartin 4 goals. Sebby Ross... Best On Ground
