Re: Freeman is gonnnnnnne
I’d assume they have to maybe do further tests or whatever they need to do but fingers crossed it’s only scar tissue, if the hammy was off the bone I’d be worried but the kid has had enough setbacks so this is just a minor hiccup by the sounds of it.

Re: Freeman is gonnnnnnne
This is definitely bad news, particularly for Freeman, but let's not panic too much. Its a 3 to 4 week injury (at least so the Club says), that would see him back in training about 2 weeks before Round 1.

Re: Freeman is gonnnnnnne
Nicke Riewoldt and Josh Gibson snapped their hamstring tendons, missed 12 weeks and then never missed a beat. Looks like we have another Jason Cripps/Leigh Fisher scenario on our hands here with Freeman.

Fifth year in the system, yet to play a game due to injury - same injury again.........it doesn't bode well. I wish him well but seriously doubt we'll ever see him on the park. Does he have a contract beyond 2018?

Look at it this way, the filth have plenty of $$, advanced infrastructure and training facilities that hardly compare to us, access to the best possible medicos and they couldn't get him right. Reality says we were being highly optimistic to take Freeman on. We've had him in cotton wool for an eternity and he still can't get himself right in the off season. Are we really surprised?
Another second rate decision by the club, clutching at long shot odds. I feel for him but he was a massive risk coming from a well resourced club like the filth. I look at the drug cheats and they have uncovered so much talent with low picks and the rookie draft already. They are well past us going into 2018 and are closer to a 17th flag than we are chasing flag number 2. Decisions make or break clubs and this is why St Kilda have a pretty average list still.

I still think he will get a game at the end of the season just as a thank you for all your efforts and never giving up. Good PR for the club and seems like the right thing to do
Assuming finals are off the table of course

The dude is 22. On zero games. History of hamstring problems. Now needs surgery.
Nothing to see here. Minor hiccup.
Still a strong tip for the Brownlow.

Re: Freeman is gonnnnnnne
He is gone. Barring a miracle.
There is something structurally flawed and it wont stand up to AFL (or even simulation)
Feel sorry for the kid, but will get moved to long term injury list after a discrete break and then a rookie promoted.
Gone by seasons end.

yep. tough luck for the lad. but said the same thing as above when we traded him - if the filfthy rich filth couldn't get him right, what hope us? bit like management using our money on trying to back a winner at the races and balance the books that way.

How much money have we spent on the kid to get where we are now?
Hundreds of thousands at least.
Genius.

As cruel as this sounds, we should pay to fix him this time but look at letting him go before the end of the season (ie pay him out). We need to focus on the others/our future

I am still hopeful - apparently not major and also scar tissue can always cause problems. I think the main issue is NF getting confidence in his body to go full tilt once fit again. His resilience and determination has to be admired, even paying himself for the trip to Germany.
Lots of medical costs but would mostly be covered by insurance.

Good luck to the fella, but I was talking to a surgeon recently who follows the footy, and he pretty much turned the thumbs down re Freeman.

Re: Freeman is gonnnnnnne
After years of treatment, conditioning and therapy that has not worked and a trip to see guru specialists in Germany, no-one thought to put the 22 yo under the knife for scar tissue issues till now? Yeah right.
I feel for Freeman but he was a massive risk that has backfired and won't end well. St Kilda have plenty of these cases. Was told that the club picked up in 2010 some gun kid from North, Jesse Smith, that had chronic hamstring problems and never came good. You think they would learn but these decision keep costing the club.
The drug cheats picked up Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti in the rookie draft (and other guys that show plenty) after some shrewd, measured recruiting and they are already touted as a top 4 in 2018. McDonald-Tipungwuti is a gun and heading for elite status in the eyes of many at that club. We continue to flounder and studying our list management since 2009 is not hard to see why.

The sky isn't falling and NF is not finished yet ... but gee the writing is on the wall for the poor kid, fingers crossed.
I think it was worth the punt as he was a potentially elite player for a 2nd round pick but he is now looking very unlikely to make it.

And now, the ever adorable Mr. Roy "The Big O" Orbison, with a little song about Nathan's AFL career called, "It's Over". I wish it wasn't so, as I'm a fan of the lad, but how much can a Koala bear?
"Is this the right room for an argument?"

"No, you didn't."
"Yes, I did."
"Listen, an argument isn't just the automatic gainsaying of anything the other person says, it's a series of statements designed to support a particular conclusion."
"No, it isn't."
"Oh, I've had enough of this."
"No you haven't"
"Oh shut up."

It is fairly obvious the club already knows Freeman is a long shot which is why we went and recruited a handful of pacy players last year.

Re: Freeman is gonnnnnnne
The article implies that it is scar tissue causing him to not reach his full potential so they are looking at ways to remove it. So he can run just not at full speed otherwise its get tight. It was a risk to get him, it didn't pan out, hopefully lesson learnt about getting broken players in a rebuild phase and move on.congorozides wrote:On a wheel chair or something?DJ Higgins wrote:http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-02-21/n ... less-saint
