Best team of Saints players who have gone elsewhere
This is the best team I could come up with of players who have started with us within the last 60 years and (after playing at least one game) have then left and played at least 50 games for another club:
B: M. Lappin S Wakelin Malthouse
HB: D Wakelin Perovic Daniels
C: Greene Stewart Dal Santo
HF: Hall Goddard Lynch
F: Cripps Lockett Ditterich
Foll: Everitt J Smith Ball
Interchange: M Carr Rice McEvoy Maguire
How does that look? Sadly it looks like a pretty strong team.
Ineligible were Galt (46 games), Trott (41), Shanahan (37), Duperouzel (25), Begley (25), Winmar (21), Hutchings (0 games)
Enjoy!

Nice work.
I think 9 went on to win premierships with their respective clubs.

Shane Wakelin kills me...
Didn’t we delist him because we thought he’d never recover from injury.
And it cost us Darryl too (though I guess we needed the pick for Hamilton so that arguably worked out)...
Nonetheless, I hope somebody got fired for that decision

Blame "fat rats clacker" who had the incredible idea of playing Barry Hall at full back.skeptic wrote:Shane Wakelin kills me...

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

We shopped Dean Rice because of his knee
He ended up pretty happy
Worthy of a place on the interchange in this list - but a premiership medallion might elevate him

I think that's right - D Wakelin, Perovic (2), Greene (3), Stewart, Hall, Ball, McEvoy (2), Rice and Malthouse.SaintPav wrote:Nice work.

Re: Best team of Saints players who have gone elsewhere
We haven't picked up anyone from another club that's been any good (well at least not as good as most of that team. I can only think of Hamill and Morris who played okay for us. Of the latest batch there is a few though but, again, nowhere near as good as those players that left.Otiman wrote:Anyone fancy putting together a team of Saints who came from other clubs and compare to this team?

Going back to the 60s, Bob and Barry Pascoe were very good; Barry was an excellent player.

Okay here is my effort (excluding current players):George27 wrote:Gehrig one of the best.Jacks Back wrote:We haven't picked up anyone from another club that's been any good (well at least not as good as most of that team. Re: Best team of Saints players who have gone elsewhere
Pretty much mine, except if you put a 50 game limit on them quite a few drop off. I had:saint64 wrote:Okay here is my effort (excluding current players):George27 wrote:Gehrig one of the best.Jacks Back wrote:We haven't picked up anyone from another club that's been any good (well at least not as good as most of that team. Voss in McConville's spot
Jezza out (ineligible - only 20-something games) for Milne
Keogh ahead of Morwood, Harding ahead of Jones
I forgot about Heath Black too, as much as I loved Powell, swap 'em over
BUT, the club's been a real elephant's graveyard, especially throughout the mid-1970's to early 1990's, then again during Lyon's time (although there were some good ones - geez we did well out of Dempster/Schneider), so it's tough to put anything that compares to the OP's team together sadly.

Rex Hunt was a fine player in saints colours.
I won't mention Zac Dawson or that thug Brent Guerra.

His performance in his last game in saints colours which was a prelim final against the swans was absolutely pathetic.spert wrote:Dawson was one of our best finals performers though.saynta wrote:Rex Hunt was a fine player in saints colours.

Re: Best team of Saints players who have gone elsewhere
For the sake of the exercise though, he'd be the best imported Full Back ahead of Crow (wasn't he a key FWD at the Saints?), only because Max only played less than 50 games (even though B&F one year!)...we've done pretty nicely raising our own over the years!saynta wrote:His performance in his last game in saints colours which was a prelim final against the swans was absolutely pathetic.spert wrote:Dawson was one of our best finals performers though.saynta wrote:Rex Hunt was a fine player in saints colours.

Sorry my bad, I was talking about Guerra, degruch wrote:For the sake of the exercise though, he'd be the best imported Full Back...we've done pretty nicely raising our own over the years!saynta wrote:His performance in his last game in saints colours which was a prelim final against the swans was absolutely pathetic.spert wrote:Dawson was one of our best finals performers though.saynta wrote:Rex Hunt was a fine player in saints colours.

Not a fan of Dawson though. His handball to the geelong full-forward for a goal cost us the game and a flag in 09. Even though the ball hit the post.
Should not have been playing after being on a drip all night,
Another act of lunacy by Lyin.
Max was devastated.
IMHO Dawson was not a patch on Penny or Gehrig as a fullback.
