Predictions: Time to call it - Who do we draft in 2017?
My apologies if we don’t need another thread like this but the draft is approaching and based on everything available out there I’m prepared to call it and thought I’d get in first.
And just to be clear, this is a predictions thread for pick 7 & 8, not a who do I like/want... plenty of threads on the board to discuss the prospects.
Putting my money where my mouth is, I think it goes like this...
St. Kilda. Pick 7 - Jaidyn Stephenson
St. Kilda. Pick 8 - Nicholas Coffield
Not in line with my preferences as I have my doubts on Stephenson but Coffield in particular just keeps coming up again and again

Assuming Cerra and Bradshaw are gone - which they may not of Fremantle takes WA or SA or country Vic boys.
Clarke
Coffield
And Higgins slides past us - which we will live to regret like the 5 clubs before us.

Re: Predictions: Time to call it - Who do we draft in 2017?
7. Nick Coffield
8. Jayden Stephenson
Its pretty much decided now. All rumors from all sides it points to this.
Personally, I would rather Bonar and Stephenson. More ceiling. Yes more risk but how damn exciting would it be??
Coffield looks and plays like ex pie nick maxfield. He’ll be a very good player just that Bonar could (and probably will be because we didnt choose him) be a brownlow medalist like fyfe dominating mid and forward.

Coffield - has pace and Skills, exactly what we need.
Bonar - strong, explosive.
I'd expect both of these two to have a very quick impact.

Don't know anything about these guys and can't read Trout's mind but from the discussion on here Coffield and Higgins in that order.
Posting 20 years of holey crap!

Still not sure that Coffield is the best option. He has a lot of pluses but he is an defender who runs off the half back flank. That is not our area of concern at present, we need a pure outside mid and either another outside mid or small forward who can actually score goals.

Impossible to guess what our recruiters will do. Only sure thing is they will be of good character and from a good family.
Won't matter if they are ordinary players with chronic fatigue or some other medical condition.
Hope I am wrong but our track record at the draft isn't great.

Stephenson and Coffield unless someone slides.
Pity Collingwood were so crap that they couldn't finish above Hawthorn and hand us picks 6&8 ....then we would be a realistic chance of Brayshaw or Cerra

Pick 7 - Someone our recruiters cannot believe was still available when our pick came up.
Pick 8 - the player we hoped would be still available when our pick came up.

Yes I think you have nailed it. Had dinner with an ITK last night and they were the 4 players he said we were into.skeptic wrote:Also a good bet IMO. Def Coffield and then one of Stephenson, Clarke or Bonarcwrcyn wrote:Coffield, Clarke

I feel very confident on Coffield...
Granted he is as many have pointed out, more of a HBF but he's more of a running HBF. And though we have a plethora of those types of players, we don't have a standout.
Sav = not defensive enough
Webster = prone to meltdowns and inconsistent disposal
Gilbert = winding down his career - more presence than damaging disposal
Geary = more a stopper
Newnes = Unsure. Hasn't cemented a best position yet.
Roberton = Well yeah, he's a lock.
D-Mac = Unsure. Not great disposal atm
So with Roberton, Carlisle, Brown, Geary - we have a solid four. There's room for a Coalfield to walk in and be that quarterback/play maker that can defend. And that pbly pushes guys like Savage, Newnes, and DMac into the mid.
Puts a lot of pressure on Webster to perform too.
That IMO means we're searching more for a pure midfielder which is why I think Bonar misses out.
Every bit of reading suggests that Stephenson has a more damaging outside game than Clarke but Clarke is perhaps more consistent but has a lower ceiling.
The X-Factor is the heart scare whatever that was... does the club take another punt on a player with a medical issue.
(Personally, I reckon Higgins may have been the way to go but am aware that most have him in the 12-18 range... don't know that I'd have the guts to back myself if I were man in charge).

Re: Predictions: Time to call it - Who do we draft in 2017?
Why Coffield? We have white, Newnes, Roberton, Rice, DMac and Savage all playing that role.
Stephenson and Bonar. We can get Stephenson AND Bonar. 2 of the best players in draft with speed agility and xfactor FUN EXCITING win grand finals with. Big game players.
Genuine class and xfactor is what we need. I am spewing becasie we will choose noughton or coffield. Probably both given the chance. God we are FUICKLED!!!

Re: Predictions: Time to call it - Who do we draft in 2017?
Stephenson has a health concerns with his heart. Not the time to take that gamble, which it will be, plus he has poor field kicking so he may do brilliant things but he will offset them with lots of easy turn oversSMS wrote:Why Coffield? And why the love for Bonar poor kicking efficiency and not a prolific goal scorer. he has other good stats but there are much better options
TAC CUP STATS
Kicking efficiency: 47%
Goals: 0.8
Coffield I don't want as he is another half back. We have a few of those already, sure none are guns but we have bigger holes to fill
Noughton would be an awesome get. He is ready to play from day 1 and will take a couple of years like all KPP to be really good which it looks like he will be. He has to work on his looping kick but that can be trained out plus in 2 years Brown will be most likely hanging up he's boots. So we need too plan ahead now. If one of Goddard or Austin come good we will still need another key defender as back up.
