Bulldogs yelping about losing Good Friday game
THE Western Bulldogs will seek a meeting with the AFL in a bid to understand why they were dumped from Good Friday footy.
The Bulldogs took on North Melbourne in the inaugural Good Friday game last season, which attracted more than 42,000 fans.
But St Kilda has been slotted in for 2018, instead of the Dogs _ and they want to know why.
“The club’s board, and its entire staff who worked so hard on the 2017 game, were disappointed to learn that the Bulldogs would not be involved in the game next year," president Peter Gordon said.
“The board will seek a meeting with AFL commissioners to understand whether there was any shortcoming in the Bulldogs’ 2017 support for or participation in the game, or any principle of competitive balance or fixturing, which provides an explanation for the AFL’s decision.

How about it was a square-up for St Kilda not being granted an AFLW team next year. Again. You have one - they do not. Therefore, in order to square up for the inconsistencies we dole out (especially to non-powerhouse / Etihad tenant clubs), we do this kind of thing. So, no hard feelings and for the time being, perhaps concentrate on not losing another CEO.
Cheers,
Gil
Go you red, black & white warriors

Re: Bulldogs yelping about losing Good Friday game
Bulldogs put a lot of effort into it,
I don't blame them for asking the question.
We'd do the same if we lost a game like that.

2020 was an aberration, when we travelled twice to Adelaide and won both, beat Tigers early, beat our bogey Swans. 2021 we've returned to our old ways. Damn

AFL don't give a stuff about minnows i.e Footscray, North and us.MickThomas wrote:Bulldogs put a lot of effort into it,

If all three ceased to exist it would make it easier for AFL in terms of right number of clubs in Victoria and fixturing!

Good Friday should be a perennial Saints v Sinners.
Saints v Demons clash.
Would be awesome.

Dog Win G.F. & lose Good Friday game. Still In front
Mick your point is very valid and for that reason these 3 clubs are probably better off presenting a united front.
What the bummers got with their privilaged deal should be no more than equal to what St.K, Dogs & North get going forward.
I believe we are better off if we can exert more pressure on the afl with the Dogs & Roos in agreement with us.
If all 3 clubs are financially more secure it becomes harder for those unsympathetic to our group of 3 to push us off to Tassie or the N.T. for instance.

f*** Shitscray. Good Friday belongs to saints. As does Easter Monday. About time we got some recognition for holidays we started.
"Is this the right room for an argument?"
"I told you once."
"No, you didn't."
"Yes, I did."
"Listen, an argument isn't just the automatic gainsaying of anything the other person says, it's a series of statements designed to support a particular conclusion."
"No, it isn't."
"Oh, I've had enough of this."
"No you haven't"
"Oh shut up."

Re: Bulldogs yelping about losing Good Friday game
Word is - as with Gold Coast in China
Despite the 'verbal ' we are there and behind this-
Only 1 player turned up at the childrens for pre game etc
So the Saints as an organisation need to get behind it to keep in the mix

This is a good gig and we should do whatever we can to make it our own. Send the whole squad in and really get involved in the appeal.
Gold coin collection at the game?
All Saints blanket goes around at half time?
Maybe that's already being done, I don't know, but something like that so that we make a contribution and are seen to be making one.

What a chance to get a genuine marquee fixture. Make it ours saints. The synergy is obvious. No wonder the dogs are howling.

Re: Bulldogs yelping about losing Good Friday game
i feel for us and the dogs and north. but if the afl want to sell this it neds to be saints vs demons. North deserve the first friday match to open every season as their marquee - and may as well put them against the dogs. Or give them the queens birthday game as melbourne would now have good friday and collingwood have anzac day. this way every melbourne club would have at least one marquee game.
