Re: Why don’t they wanna play with us
We are a long way off playing finals and anyone that can play a bit will look else where. Most of the players we have picked up are B graders that would struggle for a game at most of the other clubs. Our best option is to go to the draft with our picks and ensure that if our dodgy recruiters pick up some quality we can keep them.

Now Jars Impey has gone to the Hawks. Wouldn't have mined a pacey Aboriginal player. Only cost them pick 33 and some trading of rubbish lower picks

Although he did shut down Eddie Betts, which is no small feat.

Shame. Had we got Garrick Ibottsen and Jarmen Impey playing together we would've had the two most f***ed up names in the AFL!

Why would players want to come to us given our efforts?
Where does this lack of heart come from? Once Lenny left and Roo was playing on one leg, we've been devoid of ticker.
Our "heart" players just aren't A-grade ball players that can inspire the rest through consistent efforts - Mav and El Capitan are the epitome of that.

Premiership window + big games
Which clubs have a premiership window open over the next couple years ?
Which clubs regularly play blockbuster games ?
The perception is we can't offer either. What we offer is a regular game to fringe players who are looking for some contract security.

Noone wants to come to our club, I wonder what it is
- Carlisle for cash
- Robbo, Steele, membrey, Bruce, sav - to get a regular game (Robbo also for vic)
- freeman for longer term contract / cash

Re: Why don’t they wanna play with us
I would say we are terribly inconsistent with our intent, aggression and kicking. We definitely need the elite players to go a step further. Little worried at the moment losing Roo and Joey without clear replacements. Experience = decision making, particularly these 2.degruch wrote:You'll be right...that's what we've been collectively saying since the first quarter of R1 this season, hasn't it?ss1986 wrote:At the risk of incurring further wrath; I'd call us incredibly soft.
I still see major issues with on ground leadership. We won big with Richmond (once) and Hawthorn (when everyone was flogging them) but still got some relatively large losses (albeit not at the level of previous years). If we believe the main group with improve 2-5% we might see improvement as we have bunch of soldiers but not many elites. Will our players improve any better than in other clubs, who knows?
I cant see improvement in 2018 unless the list changes somewhat and we get mentally tougher.
Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.

Re: Why don’t they wanna play with us
We are not "clearly a long way off finals"...we are not certain to mske finals...we are a chance of doing either next year...depends on form, injuries, the draw...and every little thing that needs to go right. Richmond were "clearly a long way off playing finals" at the beginning of 2017...yet somehow are the reigning premiers...go figurespert wrote:If you wanted to pick a club for your future on this year's effort, then you go for the Bombers. We looked really ordinary too many times this season, ended the season like a lead balloon and are clearly a long way off finals.

there's a dozen who agree with you
and we are all sad that no Saint in the last 6 years has been able to perform at a Selwood or Dangerfield level,
to try to save a game and turn the tide.
In every single loss this year, all of our overpaid numpties have gone quiet, not wanting to step up and do the heavy bloody lifting.
Anybody wanting to argue?
Go back and bloody watch the last 2 minutes of the Power game, when the Power went out.
I don't care that Seb won the B n F, he is useless when it comes to making a stand and actually being a bloody "leader".
2020 was an aberration, when we travelled twice to Adelaide and won both, beat Tigers early, beat our bogey Swans. 2021 we've returned to our old ways. Damn

Re: Why don’t they wanna play with us
This thread still going? Can't see much logic or sense in it. Lack of heart? Soft? Rubbish.
We have lost Roo & Joey and are lacking experience, as we were in the Port game. Getting games into the young ones will improve leadership.
The Port game result was due to inexperience, and it just happened, the same thing happened to Port against West Coast in the finals, and to Richmond v Freo during the year. Lots of close losses to many teams during the year, so do they all lack leadership & ticker? Of course not.
In a way the Port game was good, I doubt whether the players will let it happen that way again. Good Lesson.
We have traded in plenty of players in recent years, they wanted to come here, and lost very few. Can't see any basis for this thread

Just LURVE the positivity on here by the same old same old.
Incredible that some people on here refuse to let go, move on and look towards the future; what wonderful, positive and fulfilling lives they must lead.
Some of these posts aren’t even worth responding to, but who needs trolls when we have our own right here...
Just
unbelievable

Re: Why don’t they wanna play with us
We've had plenty of players who've wanted to come to us in recent years. None coming this year? Let's wait and see how things look at 2.00 p.m. Thursday. Even if they don't want to come this year, what's the big deal? Maybe it's us that doesn't want them. The trade market has hardly been dripping with quality.

"Oh shut up."
