It felt like 1997
Hearing the passion of those Tiger fans today reminded me of our drought breaking prelim against North.
I remember queuing up at the MCC to get a front row L2 seat and then sitting in the rain watching some U18 final with an impressive kid called A. Goodes.
A few extremely tense hours and a gang tackle later it was our fans unleashing a quarter of a century of frustration.
I remember taking the family down Swan St afterwards and having to walk blocks to find a pub we could actually squeeze in to.
Then after an hour of celebrations I suddenly realised we needed to get back to Moorabbin and get queue tickets for GF SC tickets.Got there about 1am and then had a couple of drinks upstairs.
Everyone was soooo excited.
And for the next 8 days I was floating on air.
Sadly for Richmond I think their week of excitement will end the same way ours did.

The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.

Let's put this in perspective.
We only had to wait 26 years and that was a drought. Tigers have had to wait 35 years.

Memories. (Sigh.)Enrico_Misso wrote:... sitting in the rain watching some U18 final...
I only found all this out afterwards, but, that was the Teal Cup Enrico. Don't know about one side, but the other was the Northern Knights.
Just as we took our seats in the MCG members (my only time) the unremembered mob goaled to take the lead in the dying moments of that game.
The Knights responded, and one of their blokes ran into an open goal... and missed (Saint's style ). Siren sounds.
The significance was that the Knights had played in the previous five GFs. And the significance of that, was that my brother did their stats, so he got free tickets to the GF. (I used 'em to take my WA-born dad along to the Eagle's first flag, otherwise, I had no interest - I had no interest on that day either.)
So, the one year it did bloody matter.. some d'head (head band wearer? ) misses a sitter, and I miss our first Grannie appearance in 526 years!!! (And yes, I did try to get tickets!)

It must be tough for 55,000 of their members that have supported the Tigers for 5 years.

Re: It felt like 1997
Most Richmond fans haven't seen their team in a grand final. Some until this year hadn't seen them win a final.
We've been much luckier in our time. Good luck to them, love to see them win.
But the Crows are a machine this year.

I think I'd prefer the arsieness of Footscray coming from nowhere once and just winning the friggin flag.evertonfc wrote:Most Richmond fans haven't seen their team in a grand final. Some until this year hadn't seen them win a final.

Re: It felt like 1997
Who knows what may happen? The Bulldogs fluked it last year. I don't think Richmond were a Top 4 outfit this year (they only got there because of The Swans slow start), but neither were The Bulldogs last year.
Let's put them into perspective, they have beaten and out of form Geelong with a nobbled Selwood. Then GWS, also out of form and missing Cameron, Mumford, D Smith & Griffen to name a few. I felt GWS were well in control of the game until they lost Shiel (that hurt them badly) and I very much doubt Richmond would have got near them if they had some of those players available.
Cotchin's bump on Shiel, whilst not malicious, was careless with high impact (Shiel concussed). Although maybe not fair, he must be rubbed out, that's the Rule.
So it is likely that Adelaide will touch them up, their forward line is too potent, meaning Richmond will need to smash them in midfield to have a chance. I doubt that will happen.

They finished third not fourth, half a game off the top after losing three games by less than a goal. They deserved to be there as much as any other team.Linton Lodger wrote:I don't think Richmond were a Top 4 outfit this year (they only got there because of The Swans slow start),

10 flags to our pathetic 1 flag does not balance the ledger. Eversaintspremiers wrote:But they have won 10 already so that balances the ledger.SaintPav wrote:Let's put this in perspective.

We just need a couple of decades of absolute dominance to get into the ballpark.
"Now the ball is loose, it gives St. Kilda a rough chance. Black. Good handpass. Voss. Schwarze now, the defender, can run and from a long way".....
