Take a chill pill - trade period hasn't even started yet
Lets just take a chill pill as the trade, FA and draft periods haven't even "started" yet before we rush to see any problems in what the club will or will not do or can or cannot get.
No one has a clue what the club has in the works and IMO, we're better placed then we have been in the past 5 years at this time of year. Our drafting and trading overall these past 5 years has been quite competent so I'm pretty sure the recruitment and list management staff will make some good calls again.
We missed out on Kelly and Martin with our massive so called war chest. We need to get over it. Although it would have been great to nab either, one player was never going to be the answer to all our problems. If the big dog or big fish FA doesn't want to move clubs then so be it...not much anyone can do about it. Same as for next year and 2019.
Let's just see what happens after the dust has settled. I'm personally confident. Show some patience my friends as the horses haven't even left the barriers yet.

I agree that we have been very competent at recruitment over the last couple years, except for 2012, we ducked 2012 up, the only good thing we got in 2012 was Robbo

Yeah. Make it 4 years and I just used 5 as a rough number. 2012 wasn't a great draft. Only N. Wright and Pierce remain from it which isn't great. And Hickey from trades.Proph3t of egan wrote:I agree that we have been very competent at recruitment over the last couple years, except for 2012, we ducked 2012 up, the only good thing we got in 2012 was Robbo
Didn't Robbo get picked up at the end of 2011?

Got picked up in the 2012 free agency period, but that's from Wikipedia, so trust at your own Perilparkeysainter wrote:Yeah. Since Kelly signed on with GWS, I haven't felt remotely excited. It'd be nice to feel pleasantly surprised after the trade period, however.

Agree
A lot of water to pass under the bridge
We hold a very strong hand
Let's see how it plays out in a fortnight or so

Agree - we do our business quietly. Surprises like Haw2017First and McEvoy.
Wish we were linked with more I.e like Devon Smith as per Steele last year.

Surely you jest?parkeysainter wrote:Lets just take a chill pill as the trade, FA and draft periods haven't even "started" yet .
It has been running pretty much the whole year and most of the best targets have already considered their options and said yes or no. So for many players, and probably the majority, the trade/draft/FA period has already finished.
To gwt some players you very much need to table your deal before their manager to try and tempt them to not re-sign.
However:
- We do not know all the outcomes yet
- Some deals may be contingent on other deals
- Some players are still deciding
- Some players suddenly surprise and become available. ie Stringer.
We do know that in effect that the trade and FA periods have well and truly started.

Re: Take a chill pill - trade period hasn't even started yet
There were fake ITKs on here claiming they had it confirmed that Kelly was signed sealed and delivered back in May.
People were claiming it was a done deal and hed bought a house in Elwood and blah blah bah.
The same was said about Fyfe and JOM.
Just such a crock of s***.

Nothing has officially started at all. Of course some stuff goes on in the background and that is modern day AFL.saintsRrising wrote:Surely you jest?parkeysainter wrote:Lets just take a chill pill as the trade, FA and draft periods haven't even "started" yet .

The real s##t starts after the GF. As Con G said, alot of BS floats and has floated around.

It's not the end of the world when you have picks 7 & 8 in the national draft.

Yeah I'm pretty chill at this stage but once trade/draft period start I better see some decent f**king action... I'll be filthy if we top up on B - B+ players

Guess we'll see what happens. If there are no decent lamb chops on offer then the Saints recruiters might not even bother. I very much doubt that is the case though. Very sure there is plenty of juicy meat for us to eat this trade period.prwilkinson wrote:Yeah I'm pretty chill at this stage but once trade/draft period start I better see some decent f**king action... We can only grab what is left from the FA side of things if we want it.
There are still contracted players probably available. Don't be suprised if the Saints are readying for this approach with our top 2 picks.

No trust in our own recruiters and development staff?

1) Depends on the deal but I'm not personally desperate. If we get a good player or players then why not? Depends on what is involved.Con Gorozidis wrote:Why are we so desperate to offload our picks?parkeysainter wrote:We can only grab what is left from the FA side of things if we want it.

2) I do trust our staff with 2 x top 10 picks
