Re: lonie considering other clubs
Good on him, wish him the best.
Players need to make as much as possible during their careers, so if he got a 2-3 year deal somewhere you couldn't fault him for leaving.
Only kicked 6 goals as a small forward this season. .5 goals a game.

Re: lonie considering other clubs
Jack Lonie will not be picked up by anyone else
He just isn't good enough.
Should take the 1yr contract and ask his manager to stop spreading untrue rumours

Re: lonie considering other clubs
I can't help but think of Lonie as this year's Eli Templeton. Smashes it in the VFL, can't handle the next step. I want him to do well, as I do for all saints players, but I just seem to see him make the jump to the next level. If others are interested, then get what we can get for him. I would think packaging him with picks for Kelly/Whitfield trade(s) would help a lot, and soften the blow to our picks a little.

May be supposed to be a funny post. I find it grossly disrespectful to a loyal STK playerstonecold wrote:Auskick?????

True, but it's a bit funny. The kid can't make the distance from 20 metres out.

Re: lonie considering other clubs
Oh yeah cos he has so much power in selecting a club and negotiating a contract.
Clubs are desperate for 5.0 ft slow weak small fwds who cant tackle and average 0.5 goals a game.
Lining up! Bidding war!

I can't believe we offered even a one year contract. When you're not good enough then you're not good enough!
As ex-president Peter Summers said:

Maybe a straight swap for Kelly. Sounds good to me.

Re: lonie considering other clubs
The club was never going to just cut him after playing him for most of the second half of the year. They obviously see something in him. Hopefully some other club does too and gives us a second rounder for him but that is wishful thinking.

persevering with players like this is why we will never win a flag.

Re: lonie considering other clubs
Should go !
Most players who leave the club because they're not happy with the contract we offer go on to more success elsewhere.
Then we all bemoan the fact that we let them go or got nothing for them.

Re: lonie considering other clubs
i haven't necessarily given up on him. He has obvious ability and works hard. I don't like him as a small forward, though, because his kicking is dodgy. Which begs the question, where do you play him?
Maybe in the midfield one day, but there's a few he'd have to get past.

Lonie has a number of plusses. He reads the play wel and has reasonable football nouse. However he is small and SLOW topped off by being a short and errant kick.
When you are small that lack of pace can really limit your career.
He may still come good with more strength though.
