Trevor Barker Medal - Nearest to the pin
Now that the season 2017 is done and dusted, lets have a crack at the top 8 finishing order for our medal.
To me it seems their is a clear favourite, but other than that it could be a real mystery. (Also depends on how the coaches rate individual players in their roles)
I have no prize for the winner, although maybe one-day i could buy them a refreshing ale at a Saints game.
Here goes,
1st. Seb Ross
2nd. Dylan Roberton
3rd. Jake Carlisle
4th. Jarryn Geary
5th. Jack Steele
6th. Jack Steven
7th. Jack Billings
8th. Jack Newnes

That's how I reckon they deserve to end up, but this is how I think they'll get votes from coaches

Mav- does an incredible job of blocking.
2020 was an aberration, when we travelled twice to Adelaide and won both, beat Tigers early, beat our bogey Swans. 2021 we've returned to our old ways. Damn

Re: Trevor Barker Medal - Nearest to the pin
In years gone by there might have been 3 pages already on this thread but we are struggling to even fill one full page. Why is that? Is it because;
A. Fans only have a few player favourites
B. Saints list atm has a lack of genuine stars
C. The focus and attention of the media has been concentrated on 1 player ( Rooy) for the last few years and most other players don't get a look in.
D. Our media department needs to hype things up and get to work

E. when plugger66/ripplugger got banned the forum lost approx a third of its posting volume. This hasn't as yet been replaced. It's a massive void to fill.Scollop wrote:In years gone by there might have been 3 pages already on this thread but we are struggling to even fill one full page. Why is that? Is it because;

F. Facebook groups dominate nowadays - I'm on a few and they are much more active than Sainsational
G. The phpBB software we use on this forum is out of date relative to other forums and Facebook/Insty etc. Not been able to like/dislike posts with a button lowers interactions enormously on posts. Activity breeds activity.
H. Stricter moderation and the creation of ongoing disputes rule has created another void in activity - Saintsational's signature tune for years has been bickering. The forum is rebuilding. It's 2014/5 on the forum. Bottom 4.

Re: Trevor Barker Medal - Nearest to the pin
So as the results are in, here is the official top 10
1st Seb Ross 159
2nd Dylan Roberton 124
3rd Jarryn Geary 121
4th Jake Carlisle 119
5th Jack Billings 110
6th Jack Steven 108
7th Jimmy Webster 88
8th Jack Newnes 83
9th Jade Gresham 81
10th Nathan Brown 78
Whilst quite a few here picked the top 4, no-one selected them in the correct order.
Geary finished 3rd which to me was surprising, but then again isn't surprising considering he has always been a high vote getter.
Most of us had Jack Steele in the top 8, quite a few in the top 5.
Did not finish in the top 10.
We all know he was impressive at times this season.
He seems to be the type of hard tackling, ball winning, quick thinking mid we need for our game plan.
Yet didn't poll that well, can't wait for his impact next year, will be a beast.
So there was no clear winner this year.
Sainternist had the most correct but only selected 4, should have had a descent crack at it.
Happy trade time all.
