Player on the rise-
No mention of Roberton who was getting a lot of plaudits earlier in the year-
or Seb Ross-
I guess when your relying on stats alone it is tipped one way.

odd- that they would include a player who has missed 3/4 of the year ( Armo) with injury as having had a major fall in stats

Re: Player on the rise-
When Armo did play he was poor. So not a surprise. Of course injury has to play some part.saintbrat wrote:No mention of Roberton who was getting a lot of plaudits earlier in the year-

You dont mention that Sinclair is the 4th most improved bloke in the AFL.
Surely that is worth a big thumbs up?

Player ratings mean Jack all, they hate Roberton. He's ranked 15th out of general defenders this year, but he's actually top 5

They arent gospel but they mean something.
Why do people get their knickers in a knot over player rankings?
It is just one methodology. Who cares?
Noone 'hates' Roberton.
How is he ranked top 5?
On what methodology?
Your 'gut feel'?
How many games from other clubs do you watch?
Roberton has had a good year but usually plays an easy position and is loose.

Re: Player on the rise-
Might as well throw Dempster in too, he did absolutely nothing all year.
Armo barely scraped through two games, he could barely walk let alone play elite sport.
McEvoy is the elephant in the room from that list, absolutely smashed his previous years and is playing very good football.

Re: Player on the rise-
He is ranked very highly for kicks, intercept possessions, metres gained and marks, all which look to me like important defender stats, also because he is close to all Australian according to slot of experts. I also watch most matches on The weekend for my supercoachCon Gorozidis wrote:?Proph3t of egan wrote:Player ratings mean Jack all, they hate Roberton. As for player ratings, I was just giving an example of how trying to make an objective measure of who is this best is crap because the formula obviously favors certain play styles, for example, would you say that Treloar is the 9th best player in the league, or that Tom Mitchell isn't top 25? I think it would work a lot better if the rating only the past 20 odd games rather than the past 60 like it actually does.
I might just try and find how they actually devise playing points to see how they are awarded and that will see whether I'm full of crap

I've seen him take many contested marks...but they're usually when we are 2 Saints against one oppo forward, and the other Saint uses body on body
and if we're 2 on 1, he is bloody well obliged to take that mark anyway- bread and butter
2020 was an aberration, when we travelled twice to Adelaide and won both, beat Tigers early, beat our bogey Swans. 2021 we've returned to our old ways. Damn

Re: Player on the rise-
This same stat guy on SEN at the start of the season said Collingwood had best midfield in AFL and would make the 8 easy.
Stats are one things but they don't stat effort running, defensive running and rotation, and other intangibles.
