tackilng with no reward
I am not sure how all year we have laid tackles with little or no reward in the way of free kicks
Early in the game today, we hammered Oliver Viney and Jones and yet there was never a free
Going the other way Robo got done twice in very dubious fashion
I think we got done all this year for our efforts in this regard

Re: tackilng with no reward
Agree, its super frustrating (amongst other things). It's like we do steuggle to do anything right but then we go and lay a decent tackle for no reward and the opposition end up scoring. Or we have it for .2 seconds and get holding the ball against us.
Its hard enough being a Saints supporter without having to deal with these calls/ non calls all the time!

Re: tackilng with no reward
not sure when it became the rule but grabbing possession and then letting go when tackled, either play on or holding the man. since when has this been ok? thought if you grab ball and let go it is either "incorrect disposal" or "dropping the ball"
to many things going on in the current game which are seriously making it a joke. cant bump, cant tackle, can throw the ball but only if its under heavy pressure. Every single game played the rules are different.
We have become some where between a mix of netball, Soccer and rugby, although at least in those 3 sports the rules are consistant. Why can't we just let the game be Australian Rules Football and play it like Australian Rules Football is played?
Maybe the big wigs at the AFL should go watch a couple of games of VFL, WAFL, SANFL????

Re: tackilng with no reward
It happens in all games now. Whats the point of tackling when its not paid. And players arent sure how they are supposed to tackle either. Game over umpired.. has been for a few years now. No wonder they are losing umpires. Who would do it. Rules change every week

we got pinged when our guys only just the hand on the ball, no prior.
But we didn't get the same.

Correct. Umpires seemed keen to let the ball carrier do as they please from the first bounce. Unfortunately, Melbourne players were usually the ball carriers in the first half.WellardSaint wrote:we got pinged when our guys only just the hand on the ball, no prior.

And, fresh in my mind in the last quarter, the Saints player (Roberton?) who barely touched the ball and was tackled, crashed to the ground and penalized. How do you explain the rules to visiting international teams?

Re: tackilng with no reward
No holding the ball anymore get suspended for tackling so whats the point? Better off manning up on the outside focus on standing keeping feet smothering. Diving for the ball with desperation tackling with desperation is dead. Outside game now and we have very little talent there.

The "dangerous tackle" against Gilbo on Vince in the last quarter was a joke. Vince had both arms free and both hands hit the ground before he did.

Re: tackilng with no reward
Lets talk about in the back as well - Robbo was hit so hard in the back that the ball was jarred loose - and therefore not disposed of correctly - in that action he was not tackled - just run through.
