Webster and Membrey have really let us down by getting rubbed out.
Very disappointing effort tonight. Not unexpected mind you, but typical Saints when we seem on the verge of great things.

He started forward in the vfl but now is playing back just as we need a forward for Membrey/McCartin - go figuresaint-stu wrote:We need a key forward who is effective. Rowan Marshall?

If Membrey and McCartin are both fit, we've got more than enough tall forwards.Jacks Back wrote:He started forward in the vfl but now is playing back just as we need a forward for Membrey/McCartin - go figuresaint-stu wrote:We need a key forward who is effective. Rowan Marshall?
If one of Carlisle or Brown is injured, we're stuffed, especially now Gilbert looks to be out for a long time. We'd be back to playing Bruce down back.

Marshall as the no 1 ruckman? Gotta be joking. He would be 5th in order after, Longer, Hickey, Holmes and Pierce,

Re: Changes For Next Week
If Longer is fit he'll come in for Hickey. Webster for McKenzie.
Not sure there will be too many more unless someone has a blinder for Sandi. It's only a week since we smashed a top 4 side. I feel sorry for Battle that he didn't debut last week instead.

Re: Changes For Next Week
Out: Gilbert, DMac, Long, Battle
In: Dunstan, Webster, Weller, McCartin/Acres
If Longer is available then it's a no brainer, if not Hickey gets a chance at retribution
Battle out for McCartin if available, if not Acres replaces him
Our midfield got smashed - Sinclair, Stevens, and Steele - absolutely nothing from them until the game was well and truly over. Lonie and Long gave us more than all of them (although Long did nothing with the ball, was more a pest). Wouldn't be surprised to see one of them dropped.
On the mental fragility, we see it in most teams, hence the up and down season of so many teams, perhaps it's simply a curse of the millenials, a very fragile generation?

Re: Changes For Next Week
McCartin out for at least another 2 weeks when he will be reassessed on concussion tests.
You would hope Sandy has a real good game as if there has ever been a carrot for some today is the day.

Re: Changes For Next Week
IN:
BAcres(!!!!!!!!!), Webster.
OUT:
Lonie, Gilbo (inj).
Emergencies:
Mav, Marshall/Holmes, Rice.
Unlucky:
The emergencies + Lonie.
Lucky:
Hickey(!!!), MacKenzie, Long, Battle.
Hickey(!) What is up with Hickey???? A shadow of the 2016 Hickey. He must be carrying something? If so, clearly isn't able to carry the whatever satisfactorily, so I'd be resting him. If he's fit, then I'd give him another game next week. Hopefully it was just a 'first game back after a long period out' thing. But if he plays like that again next week, he'll have to be dropped. We can't keep carrying yet another number one ruck who contributes nothing.
Long. Struggling so far, but he's the future, so I'd play him again next week. But Ben... you've gotta' stop ducking your head when tackled!!!
Battle. Hardly sighted. However, he's the future also, so I'd give him at least another game.
MacKenzie. Has been very disappointing this year. Somehow, has seemed to have trouble adjusting to the tempo of AFL footy. What I find strange about that, is that he had[/i adjusted. I haven't heard of blokes 'unadjusting'(?) However, the club really rate him, so based on that, I'd keep playing him to maximise his chances of 'readjusting' again.
Lonie. Highly skilled, tries so so hard, but... I'm still worried about his lack of size. Has great difficulty sticking his tackles, and I wonder if we can carry two poor tacklers (he and Sinclair)? And Jack L is still not taking his opportunities on goal, which would be his saving grace.

We're in serious trouble if we're looking for Dunstan to make a difference.

We may get a look at him this season based on his current form. But I could not see the Saints debuting him against the Swans in Sydney. The Recruit wrote:

Round 22 against the Kangas at home I think he may just be a sneaking chance to come in.

Re: Changes For Next Week
Naismith is 206 cm and 105kg. So not the type of ruck that Hickey is likely to go well against, and moreso with Hickey out of form.
Going ok in the ruck is very important against the Swans due to way they set up.
Longer if fit will come back in.
If not then I fancy that Holmes will be back. 203cm and 100 kg and has been tapping well in the VFL even if his field play is pretty much non-existent still.

Re: Changes For Next Week
Relatively experienced, match hardened. Best for Sandy last week and in the best this week. Has to play after that performance against Essendon. Ditto Acres. And Longer if fit. And maybe Mav. Certainly Jimmy.Waltzing St Kilda wrote:We're in serious trouble if we're looking for Dunstan to make a difference.

I watch a lot of Sandy games and neither Long nor Battle had shown anything at VFL level to suggest they were ready for AFL.
Let them develop at VFL level so as when they get another game they are in good form and confident, I am happy to give kids a chance in the ones before dropping them but they should at least of been in good form at VFL level.
Both of them have been thrown to the wolves.

Re: Changes For Next Week
Out: Gilbert (inj); Hickey, MacKenzie & Battle
In: Webster, Acres, Longer & Weller
Poor Battle had his debut in a shocking team performance, however you don't need more than two big forwards on the SCG, its too small. What to do if Longer isn't yet fit? Holmes had a dominant game for Sandy yesterday, however despite Hickey being deplorable, I'd give him a shot to redeem himself if Longer doesn't get up.
