If you check out the future stars they came to the idea that if we get Kelly it will be hard to keep the 2 firsts. If we get Dusty on the other hand you can keep the 2 firsts.

Why would dusty leave? Money yes but from tichmond mcg 70k fans on the verge of a possible flag to us???Wombat15 wrote:If you check out the future stars they came to the idea that if we get Kelly it will be hard to keep the 2 firsts. If we get Dusty on the other hand you can keep the 2 firsts.
Nah. And besides theres no way hed come to us leaving tigers with no picks. He'll stay. From the old school thinking will be loyal.
I rate rayner and whitfield over just spending money on jkelly.
We could get pittard, may, whitfield all for $2m or spend $1.3m on the jkelly ... AND add rayner cause we'll have pick 2/3
Wouldnt that be the better move?

I completely get both sides of the argument. The way im seeing it is much like future stars.SMS wrote:Why would dusty leave? Scenario A: We get kelly on the reported offer but it will probably cost us 2 firsts but wed probably get a couple of 2nds in return maybe.
Scenario B: Martin on roughly the same money and pricing richmond out of room to match meaning we would get dusty and potentially Rayner, LDU or Fogarty and maybe a Jack Higgins type with our next pick. I should mention im starting to like Higgins purely because you could have him and gresh terrorising forward lines for the next 10 years. Both have the ability to play in mid as well.
I guess because i dont trust our recruiting staff to get the top end talent right im on the scenario A bandwagon. But based on the fact the club loves that 2009 draft i could see them going the dusty option. It would mean we have Stevens, Carlisle and Martin from that draft. then you just have to hope they grab best available talent that arent KPP.

I reckon we should start cheating the salary cap and get them all.

Re: Hawks pick. What do we do with it?
We payed overs for Carlisle, because he suited our needs, so we will probably have to pay overs for Kelly if he chooses us (i.e. two-first round picks with a first or second-round pick in return from GWS).
If he doesn't choose us we should use both of them in the draft and look to trade other picks for steak knives from other clubs.

Re: Hawks pick. What do we do with it?
Pick 1-3 has to be taken to the draft IMO
Our first round pick can be shopped around
I'm happy to give up big money for a needs based gun ( free agency)
Im happy to give up two first round picks for a needs based gun but not pick 1-3 along with 6-12 along with heaps of money for a needs based gun

Make a decision by the end of the season. That's the best thing to do with it right now.

I don't necessarily agree that we paid overs.darylcowie wrote:We payed overs for Carlisle, because he suited our needs, so we will probably have to pay overs for Kelly if he chooses us (i.e. two-first round picks with a first or second-round pick in return from GWS).

We Gave:
Pick No.5 and pick No.24
We Got:
Carlisle and pick No.14
The picks turned out to be Parish, Gresham, Alex Morgan.
So in effect, We Gave:
Darcy Parish & Alex Morgan
We Got:
Jake Carlisle & Jade Gresham
I don't reckon that's overs. I reckon we did really well from it.

Re: Hawks pick. What do we do with it?
Regarding the OP though, we should keep both picks and use the Draft.
Worst case is that we trade one of the picks for a decent player from somewhere - but I'd be dirty if we gave up two top 10 picks for anyone. I mean, Callum Mills and Clayton Oliver went 3 and 4 in the Draft. To get two young dudes like that would be amazing.

Our pick 5 got knocked back to pick 6 as Sydney matched Melbourne's bid for Mills at pick 3
So it wasn't Parish but Aaron Francis who Essendon picked up using our pick that we swapped in the Carlisle trade
So I guess that means we have done even better ...... at this stage!

Re: Hawks pick. What do we do with it?
According to some dude on on the couch GWS have been fined 1000 points in the draft and said something about not being able to compete in the first round. What does that mean for our first round picks?
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

Wombat15 wrote:personally im not a fan of our drafting strategy weve had 1 pick pay off in the past 4 Richardson Drafts (Gresh). yet to get consistency from Paddy or JB. The picks at the time were defensible but retrospectively they havent paid dividends as of yet. So im hesitant to say lets go to the draft with 2 top 10 picks. Unless one of them falls in the top 3 i cant see the value. LDU, Rayner and Fogarty are probably the big 3 at the moment. The other concern is if Kelly does in fact nominate us we will have to give up picks to get him. i could see a scenario where its Kelly and pick 16-18 for our 2 firsts. Because at the back end of that draft we could get a Hunter Clark type.saynta wrote:dragit wrote:I will vomit if we downgrade a top 3 pick into 2 later picks.
Yep. I have never understood how that is a win. Ask the dees. They could have picked Kelly.
im dreaming in this scenario but if the football gods allowed us to go. Keep hawks pick and trade Saints 2017&18 First rounders for Kelly that would be ideal.
Gws don't have a pick in the first round.

Re: Hawks pick. What do we do with it?
I dont see any point in trading our first round pick away. It will hopefully be around 11.
Whereas our Hawthorn pick could be 2 to 6. If 2 or 3 I would trade in=t out for a top ten pick and a lower first round pick. Which would give us three picks in the first round.

Re: Hawks pick. What do we do with it?
Aside from GWS & GCS, has a team with two top 10 picks ever come out of the draft with a win?
Just off the top of my head
Scully & Trengrove
Brayshaw & Petracca (stiff on Brayshaw)
Freeman & Scharenberg
John Butcher & Andrew Moore
Roughead & Franklin are probably the only ones I can think of.
