Jeer the Team if it Continues to Lose?
If we lose to North Melbourne in the same sort of fashion as we have lost our last three, I, for one, am going to be ropable, should it happen. I have never booed my own team before, but under the circumstances (recent break up with long-term gf), I am feeling a little heavyhearted and volatile. Not to mention, this team is starting to break the promises they said they'd deliver us this year.

Sorry to hear about your breakup.
Booing the team, or our players is taboo in my opinion. Same as bronx cheers. Not that our players are beyond reproach, such as discussing their downsides / things they need to improve on, but during a game is the time where we need to show full support at the ground no matter what IMO.

These guys get paid a truckload of money.
They promised to be better than last year. If your telco and ISP promised but didn't deliver, you'd be ropable.
Memberships cost money, and if they want to keep 40k next year,
they better damn well
- analyse why they're getting it so wrong
- take definite steps to fix it
Nothing wrong with booing them to demonstrate how unhappy you are with their lack of brains

I'd never boo our team, or go the Bronx cheer! I'll save my boos for the opposition. Especially the dopers and the filth.

Re: Jeer the Team if it Continues to Lose?
Have you ever seen some severe jeering by the faithful? I remember we lost a crucial game (I think it was in '91) at Moorabbin by point against Melbourne and some of the supporters were savage when the teamed walked off. Someone of the things yelled at some of our best players was quite lamentable. There was another time in 2000 after a narrow loss to Footscray. It was the game where poor old Maxy Hudgheton got very emo. When the players walked through the race, back to the rooms, it was like a case of the Christians being thrown to the Lions.White Winmar wrote:I'd never boo our team, or go the Bronx cheer! Re: Jeer the Team if it Continues to Lose?
Indeed, Sainternist. We've probably had more reason to boo our team over the years than any other. I was part of the sit down/turn our backs protest in the AE back in 1984 when we were about 70 down at half time. That's about the worst I've done. I remember a bit of a blue breaking out amongst our faithful in the AE in 1992 when the Bulldogs upset us. There was some booing on that day. There was a very bad loss to Hawthorn in the wet in 1984, IIRC. Went down by more than 20 goals, I think. To cap it all off, Steven Pirrie went for a kick in after a point, slipped, fell flat on his arse and the ball dribbled straight into Leigh Matthews' hands on the mark. Lethal didn't have the decency to just pop it over his head for a goal. He waited as Pirrie ran towards him, half baulked him, gave him a don't argue and walked into the open goal and kicked it out into the carpark. When Pirrie came off, that was as close as I ever came to booing a sainter. Plenty of others didn't hold back, though.Sainternist wrote:Have you ever seen some severe jeering by the faithful? Booing might feel good for about 5 min but it won't really help you in the long run.Sainternist wrote:If we lose to North Melbourne in the same sort of fashion as we have lost our last three, I, for one, am going to be ropable, should it happen. Transference.
You need a rebound..comes home with you on Friday, leaves Sunday 5pm...
Actually, that probably won't work either...
You're screwed for a while.
Strangely, you will look back and think this was a good time.

Hahahaha So true! The newly single game is a bit of a predicament. Just have to keep things pretty low-key for the time being, I guess.SaintPav wrote:Booing might feel good for about 5 min but it won't really help you in the long run.Sainternist wrote:If we lose to North Melbourne in the same sort of fashion as we have lost our last three, I, for one, am going to be ropable, should it happen. Re: Jeer the Team if it Continues to Lose?
Oh, I don't remember the sitting down and turning backs protest from the AE. Mind you, I was only a little tacker at the time. I have a recollection of that Hawthorn game. Fortunately can't remember the Pirrie kickout though. Poor bastard! hahaha Trust Leigh Matthews to take delight in such a moment. He was a ruthless footballer. Wish we had him instead of Hawthorn. Wasn't he recruited from somewhere in our recruiting zone? Typical bloody Hawthorn luck!White Winmar wrote:Indeed, Sainternist. Gosh, the days in the 80s were lean. I remember it took them until about round 13 to finally win a game in 1986. In contrast 1987 felt like we'd made the finals. I think that year was the time I'd felt optimistic about the Saints' future.
I think the closest I've come to booing was yelling at a few of our players who had a dirty day to get off the field.

As volatile as you may feel now, I think jeering the players at the ground is unnecessary. Will help to reinforce the current negative feedback loop, which will further erode confidence and belief.
