About the best thing he's done since leaving us. A very good 200 game player for the Saints.

He was asked having played 200 games with the Saints and 100 with the Bombers that when he retires will he feel more a Saint or a Bomber.stkmo wrote:What did he say? He replied something along the lines that he can imagine returning to the saints in some way but will always treasure his time at the bombers.

Re: Former Saint chalks up 300 games in style
Yes , he chased the dollars
But so what !
He's a professional sportsman.
The problem for the saints was he knew that we were done as a finals prospect. Probably not the only one on the list who also new this .
The club also saw his value in the draft as they did with dal .
Who on here will complain if we gain a big name from another club because like bj they are chasing the dollars.
I say congratulations on your 300th bj
Thanks for the good memories at our club.
Like the height i jumped out of my seat seconds after you took that screamer in the 2010 gf

Agreed - for me it was definitely the standout moment of any of the GFs I have attended - it was outstandingSemperFidelis wrote:That mark is out and out one of my best ever footy memories. It was truly epic. A parting of the black and white seas ...

I'd be happy if his cousin ends up half as good.
Was as good as any going around in 09 & 10.
Fine career, worthy #1 pick.
Congrats on 300 games.

Yep, great servant of the club - another worthy 300 club member along with Roo, Harvs, Barry Breen, Burke, Loewe, Greene. That mark in the 2010 GF was one of my treasued memories - albeit bitter-sweet.

Just wondering if we read the tea leaves properly and had a good admin at the time if we should've tried to trade BJ for something better than pick 13. I know he exercised his FA rights - he was the first to do it, but had things been different a more traditional arrangement may have been possible I'm sure BJ never wanted to screw us over - he was leaving some very good mates that he's still good friends with. But our pathetic admin at the time would've made this almost impossible to achieve.

Absolute gun. One of the finest footballers you could ever hope to see. So smart, such a lovely kick.

Re: Former Saint chalks up 300 games in style
With the passing of time, the disappointment of BJ leaving our club has subsided to the point that today, I wish Brendon nothing but the best for the remainder of his footballing career. What a wonderful player he was (and is), and what a truly remarkable career he has had. One played at a consistently elite standard. As a 50 year old Saint supporter, I have BJ in the top 10 saints players that I have seen live. He may currently represent the Essendon F.C but to me, he wil always be a Saint, and a Saint great at that. He will always be welcome back to the Saints, where he belongs.

Re: Former Saint chalks up 300 games in style
Loved BJ with us and it still annoys me a bit seeing him in the junkie colours. But he's earned it for his great career with us and I won't begrudge him that. It is pleasing that due to his lofty standards and achievements as a Sainter that his subsequent time at the Bummers has been pretty mundane

Re: Former Saint chalks up 300 games in style
Putting it simply...
200 brilliant games with us.
Didn't hold the club to ransom when he left.
Our list management declined to match his offer from Essendon.
His manager begged the club to match the deal and we never actually tabled a final, formal offer.
Privately considers himself a "Saints fan" and watches all our games; cares greatly about his ex-teammates.
Best friends are all St Kilda people.
Had third parties very politely and very privately sound out St Kilda about a free agent return last year but the Saints' list management respectfully declined; the discussion never went beyond that.
Very passionate about the return to Moorabbin.
His four best mates: Roo, Dal, Chips, Monty.
(By the way, why would any of this shock anyone? He spent the most important 10 years of his life with us, in the most emotionally demanding time, when bonds for life were being formed.)
I am actually delighted with how most St Kilda fans handled the situation. It was the right move for him financially and it cleared up a lot of cap space for us.
He's a Sainter, through and through. I think the leadership qualities he has displayed at Essendon are exactly what makes him such a fine individual.
He's one of us and as far as I'm concerned, he's always welcome at our club and whenever I see him, I'll always shout him a beer for the deeds he did in the name of our football club.

Agree with all of that - he's a Saint as far as I'm concerned. Suspect Watters was a factor in his departure also. BJ and Dal both left under Watters and Roo & Joey would've gone if he'd stayed. Can't be a coincidence.evertonfc wrote:Putting it simply...
