Re: Can we not get back into Tasmania?
I think it's nice and romantic to have fans in Tasmania, but what does it really matter?
4 flags will get you new members anywhere - regardless of whether you play two games there.
I think people are overrating the whole Tassie thing.
Why didnt we move to the Gold Coast? That'd have generated more supporters.

Re: Can we not get back into Tasmania?
I went down there for a couple of games and enjoyed it. Our record there wasn't great though, so wasn't surprised when they pulled the pin. Still it's a bit disappointing. If we played 4 games a year there I'd consider moving south.
Re: Can we not get back into Tasmania?
why have our results or performance there even come into consideration?
That's the problem of the coaching staff and the players...
Perhaps learn to win interstate or in all conditions... And that might hold us in good stead?!
But NO
let's take the easy road and get used to the cosy confines of our indoor stadium???
Let's not take the hard road?! The only road you can take to ultimate success...
On Tassie being unimportant
Have some fkn respect!!! Not only 2 of our greatest players ever, a Brownlow medalist and another Premiership player
Our current Captain, legend was born there, considers himself Tasmanian and own a house there.
Tens of thousands of supporters....
But hey, who gives a s***?... We can't win there... So we can't play there?!
Who about F***ing learning to win there?!?!

But what's in it for the club? Hawthorn aren't exactly hitting it out of the park down there - and they've won 4 flags!BigMart wrote:why have our results or performance there even come into consideration?

Commercially, is it really worth it? The AFL doesn't seem to think so, according to their own report a year or two ago.

Re: Can we not get back into Tasmania?
We went down there for the first time on the weekend. Good game to catch!!!
I heard lots of old blokes saying they barracked for St Kilda because of all the great Tasmanian players who played with us.
Stood at the fence just behind a tiny little bloke who said he'd been a Sainter since about 1930.
It was great being there.

Re: Can we not get back into Tasmania?
Are you kidding?
Hawthorn have picked up 15k members, to get them to a lazy 70k
They've also earned 500k per game played there. Have been guaranteed 5 interstate games instead of 6 for giving up home games, they get to play interstate teams at home (in Tas)
Sponsorship from Tourism Tasmania... check out their jumpers?
It has been a smart strategic move, and they really have taken over Tas.
Anyone who thinks we didn't lose out by making that pathetic, short sighted decision to bail.. are either delusional or clueless
Dumbest of all our dumb decisions.... and there's a lot of dumb decisions to consider
Funnily enough... we seem to make our worst decision on the cusp of success.... it's like we don't know what to do when we get there?!
We are good at rebuilding the pieces though...

My understanding is, and I'm happy to be corrected, is that its not that lucrative at all. The AFL dont see it that way and I wouldn't be surprised if Hawthorn pull out after this contract ends.
I also dont believe the AFL wanted us there.

I wouldn't go believing everything the AFL sprouts.... they have an agenda
Tassie is not on it

Re: Can we not get back into Tasmania?
The dumb thing was going there in the first place.
And anyone who disagrees is "pathetic, short sighted", "delusional" ,"clueless", and the "Dumbest of all our dumb".

Re: Can we not get back into Tasmania?
Yeah, it hurt Hawthorn?! fFS...
You know it's ok to admit we made a huge mistake... to err is human.
But to refuse to admit it, when its ridiculously obvious is strange? Or must you just disagree with me?
Our decision to exit Tas was poor - it's that simple
And we can admit it now... surely? Like Brad Howard was a poor draft pick... I think we can safely say that as well??
And please don't bag Tassie, if it weren't for the apple isle products, our one piece of history never happened... in one word
Baldock
Maybe another... Stewart?!

Re: Can we not get back into Tasmania?
If two players is all you need for a home game, then after we play a few in Ballarat there's a couple at Hurlingham park. Then we're off to Perth.

Re: Can we not get back into Tasmania?
Bluthy the departure of the Saints from Tassie remains, an emotional extremely raw issue to us Tassie sainters. I think I have said what I felt at the time I do not intend to repeat it again. In spite of the sense of abandonment I felt at the time ( and I still feel it) I remain a true member of the family and I always will. I do not feel any particular excitement if the club tries to find its way back to the Tassie market. It had the inside run and blew it. I cannot see it happening again and I do not really care. " (that)...the first cut was too deep".Bluthy wrote:They love us down there. We play a great brand of footy. Mav and Rooey are tassies I think. They will never forget Baldock. Make it happen Ahrmet .
Re: Can we not get back into Tasmania?
Two pretty good ones... responsible for our only flag
Oh, don't forget Verdun, Barry Lawrence either?? Perhaps you should also know the entire Riewoldt family originated from there too...
We also have tens of thousands of supporters over there too, but what the hey... I'm with you - F*** em...
We should play Port and Freo at Etihad and lose 100 grand?... yep, I agree...

It's not like playing in front of small crowds at Etihad were we can't break even and playing in NZ was better.Johnny Member wrote:I think it's nice and romantic to have fans in Tasmania, but what does it really matter?

Re: Can we not get back into Tasmania?
NO NO NO NO NO.
I can't work out what the benefit of selling our home games actually provides the club.
Positives
- More cash
- more 3/4 game members
- bigger basis for sponsorship
Cons
- 9 interstate games a year... eg almost every second week.
- takes out ability for a 16 game membership
- close to zero publicity in Melbourne for the game (eg SEN and foxtel only)
- less publicity /air time takes away from attractiveness to sponsors
- cant win interstate/overseas
Therefore i see it as you sell your soul for some quick cash. With hopefully improving stadium deals we won't have to resort to prostituting ourselves to the highest bidder.

The dome is the fortress. We don't like the wind, mud, rain or sun of the outdoors. More we play there the better (then hope like crazy September is warm and sunny).
Therefore the less games near Antarctica the better

Not a better word spoken on here, I was born and raised in Tas but moved her 25yrs ago .... still consider myself a Tassie boy!
I Wouldve gladly sacrificed a few games for my viewing so many passionate saints fans, and generations of new ones got to see their heroes!!!
That ship has sailed unfortunately... it cut me so much, that I considered giving up my membership and just following cricket... loyalty ran too deep though.
It was an awful decision, so disrespectful

Moorabbin and Tasmania. Our spiritual homes. The two things that helped deliver our only flag. Just do it Matt Finish and Board.
I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!
